Today a direct flight from Moscow landed at the Cancun airport. Not sure if this is a first-ever event. But it certainly hasn't happened in a long time, if ever. The flight crew didn't have the needed visas and were almost rejected. Imagine the expense of sending a 767 with almost 300 pax on a 14 hour flight and no one checks if the flight crew need visas? Stupidity knows no bounds. The airline is Transaero. Not sure of the frequency of the flights, am guessing it will start at once a week as that's how new routes usually start, but that's an unqualified guess. Transaero Airlines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Have also been hearing rumors from airline folk that now that the Cancun airport has it's new second runway that at least one airline is considering making Cancun a hub. Cancun certainly is strategically located geographically and would make a good hub for an airline that serves both South and North America.
