I hate that dam store. In the morning I would get smokes for Christa, sometimes it was 80 pasoes, sometimes it was 45 pasoes. I dont know who or why or what, but it pissed me off more than once. Water and smokes day 3 80 pasoes (gave them 20usd) got back 100 and 2x 20s. Pasoes Water and smokes day 4 70 pasoes (gave them 20usd) got back 150 pasoes. Diet Coke and smokes day 5 90 pasoes (gave them 20USD) got back 110 pasoes 20US at 13 is 260 pasoes 20US at 10 is 200 pasoes Never any consistency, but I did pay attention, sometimes they used the calculator to do something, sometimes not. My suspicion is that when they use the calculator it was 12 or so to 1, when not it was 10 for simple math. If I complained about anything thats what it would be.
Easy fix buy your smokes at the airport and diet cokes are free. Now you don't have to DEAL WITH THAT BITCH IN THE STORE.
100 Pesos for a travel sized shave cream...saved a whole 5 pesos by going to the minimart across the street!
Carton of cigs at duty free on the way down and no need to deal with exchange.... of course we did find that the OXXO, across the street was fairly consistent in pricing and not a gouge in terms of being comparable to a variety/convenience store. To avoid any issues with exchange we actually opted to bring pesos. That way we knew, up front, what our costs were as we paid only 1 time for exchange. In defense of the on-site gift shop though - we have to say that they actually had a fairly nice selection of dresses at a reasonable price point, ideal in the event that you find yourself short an outfit (between $35 - $50 US).
The solution to this money exchange problem is walking directly across the street to the pharmacia/convenience store and also getting yourself a international credit card with 0-fees. Call Capital One - They give you the exchange rate at the daily closing rate - $1 to 13.23 pesos today. They also have a much broader selection of tobacco products - who knew you could get a pack of cigarettes in either 12 or 16, I forgot which, to a pack - Marlboro's at that.
Thank you for making my point. Bring Peso,s this is Mexico not the USA I just got some from a Currency exchange place in Ottawa and got 12 peso for one CDN ,, not bad considering our low dollar A lot less head aches Stress of buying smokes will kill you
Yeah I gotta say why didn't you grab smokes at the duty free, we take 4 cartons down. and as far as anything else we go to OXO down the street.. cheaper than the one across the street.. 5 min walk turn left you can see the screen and what the rates are. We only use that store for emergency... like a dress or something...LOL What we have noticed over at Isla is if they don't pull out a calculator just move on. We tried to buy a 6pk of beer and we had American and she wasn't going to give us any exchange. 1 to 1 so moved on.
I thought for sure you'd have a smoking dig in there Ali and I switched to vapes some time ago, so much better for you and less angry looks from non-smokers
