The gym

    I know this may seem like a silly question. I mean, who wants to exercise on vacation right? Well, this nutty chick is going to have to. I the last year I have discovered running (and here I thought all along my legs were for wrapping around my neck! Silly girl!) And I run 5 days a week at least. I am training for the Tough Mudder so I can't just stop on my trip.

    So my question...have you used the gym? Is it kept cool enough that I won't pass out? What is yhe equipment like? I went up there last time...and looked but I don't remember it at all. Lol!

    Also, any good outside running areas? If I remember correctly if I ran on the beach I'm not going to get too far. (Right now I run 5 plus miles on long run days...)

    The gym is cool enough. The treadmills can get some late am, early afternoon sun on them thru the windows but it is what it is. They work. It's cool, there are some free weights, some nautilus type, a smith machine, elliptical, bikes, a swiss ball, and a step. It's clean and gets the job done.
    I'm sure you may just see me and Silly (Pauline) in there during the week also.
    I like to sweat out the booze. Lol

    Mel is correct. It's actually a pretty nice gym with several treadmills,ellipticals and some free weights and machines.
    We always have good intentions on going to the gym while at TTR but always seem to be too hung over to actually follow through :)

    If you are training for tough mudder, run on the beach... It will be a GREAT help...

    I would recommend running on the beach (You can't get very far, but you can do laps).

    We also ran on the sidewalk directly in front of TTR. This was great in the morning because it wasn't real hot yet and there are other runners/walkers. We ran towards the main area and felt perfectly safe and enjoyed it. They also have mile markers by the side walk (kilometer markers I should say). There is one almost directly in front of TTR, so you can tell exactly how far you go.

    Outside TTR on the road is a wide running, skating, biking lane that goes north towards old Cancun. I think it's a little over 3 K long so up and back will be close to 3.5 miles.

    We were there in Aug last year and big runners as well. I will say the gym in nice and kept cool enough. I found the treadmills to be way off on pace just an FYI. But overall the gym is good our room was right down the hall from it so made it easy to get to and we even used in one late night for a litte fun!!! Nothing like it it the gym!

    I used to run in Cancun in the early ams. I would lap the three pools as I didn't feel safe on my own running in Cancun. It worked well enough and I got in a good work out everyday.

    I'll be running a lot during our vacation in April.... from the pool to the bar that is :)
