Hahaha yes, FAR better than the Jonas Brothers!!! But.......... NFL needs to step up their halftime show for real, all these oldies and "safe" bands are the reason I turn the channel during halftime!

I think its the reason EVERYONE changes the channel during halftime. Not since 2004 has there been anything worth watching

    2005- Paul McCartney
    2006- Rolling Stones
    2007- Prince
    2008- Tom Petty
    2009- Springstein

They better have some DAMN GOOD commercials, or it better be a really good game

(I'm killing time at an airport - enjoy)

I knew you couldn't hold your liquor (I have a picture somewhere), but your complete lack of appreciation for music outside of this week's top 40 is a surprise.

2005 - Sir Paul McCartney - Music Legend. Listed in Guinness World Records as the most successful musician and composer in popular music history, with 60 gold discs and sales of 100 million singles. His song "Yesterday" is listed as the most covered song in history. The Beatles are one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands in the history of popular music, selling over a billion records internationally

2006 - The Rolling Stones - The Rolling Stones have released 24 albums in the US, nine concert albums and have sold more than 200 million albums worldwide. In 2004 they were ranked number 4 in Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time

2007 - Prince - Prince has released several hundred songs both under his own name and with other artists. He has won six Grammy Awards and an Academy Award, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. In 2004, he was named as the top male pop artist of the past 25 years by ARC Rock on the Net and Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Prince #28 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Wikipedia quote "The twelve-minute medley of songs was interspersed with spirited guitar solos. The show was performed in heavy rain that drenched the stage, shaped in the artist's logo. It has been widely hailed by critics as the best half-time show to-date."

2008 - Tom Petty - Honored with 18 Grammy Award nominations. In April 1996, Petty received the UCLA's George and Ira Gershwin Award for Lifetime Musical Achievement. The next month, Petty won the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers' Golden Note Award. In 2002, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On December 6, 2005, Petty received the Billboard Century Award for his lifetime achievements.

2009 - Bruce Springsteen - He has sold 120 million albums and has earned numerous awards, including eighteen Grammy Awards and an Academy Award, was ranked 23rd on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time all and made TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People Of The Year 2008 list.

In 2001, they had Aerosmith. In 2002, it was U2. And 2003, Sting. We won't mention 2004. I think it may have been attempt to thank all the house wives that are forced to watch the Superbowl every year because they know they are not allowed to touch the remote. I don't see a Superbowl fan going out of their way to watch Janet and Justin - not that there's anything wrong with that :> . Look how that turned out. If a nipple clip could cause that much controversy and get that much negative media coverage where they could lose sponsors that pay up to $2.8 million for half minute spots, can you blame them for going with the world's top musicians and artists instead of someone without a track record who happened to stumble into this weeks top40, but will probably be forgotten by the time Superbowl comes around.

 I am not from that generation, and it seems much of the USA doesn't care for it either, saw on CNN today where a lot of fans are irrate about it, including myself. I have lost a LOT of respect for the NFL over their lack of officiating and their super bowl halftime crap! I still love the football though

im gonna have to agree with waste's post.

the bands they have chosen are done for the reasons hes posted. i dont think its a generation thing cause if it were, then i would think that there are more baby boomers out there that would appreciate the mcartney, prince the stones ect, that are fans of football than there are of cookie cutter top 40 radio. but thats just me.

i dunno. makes more sense to me that there are more tom petty/bruce springsteen fans than there are janet jackson fans...and really, justin timberlake draws more screaming young girls than he does of football fans...i dont know how many of those screaming young girls actually like football?

i dont see why people would be irrate, change the channel. youre tunning in for the sport, not the half time show..
