For anyone interested in hearing some good grunge and rock, the band who plays PatyO's on Tuesdays, play at a local bar evry weekend. The place is called the Black Pub and is located by the bull ring on the way downtown (opposite direction of hotel zone) It is in a large 3 level plaza complex with many different types of bars. It is very safe, but is not often frequented by tourists. The Black Pub is fairly upscale and is partly owned by TTR owner's son. Cab ride should not be more than $10 one way. The band plays a more diverse show and not the typical touristy songs they play at Payos. They play thurs, friday and saturday every weekend at the pub. They don't usually start till about midnight each night and play 3 sets. So if you looking to rock out a lil and get tired of the TTR playlist this may be an option. They also play Margaritaville on Wednesday night at 8.But that is the typical touristy staple songs. If you do go, be sure to tell Rafa (the singer) you are a TTR guest. The band luvs TTR.
How near to the bull ring, is it on the same side of the road? How 'safe' is that part of town post midnight?
I think Steve has recommended the Black Pub before. He said they have decent beers there (normally hard to find in Cancun). I remember driving past it on the way to TTR from the airport. It looked like it was in a pretty nice area and shouldn't have any problems. If I remember correctly it was right where the island part meets up with the mainland (I know Island is the correct term, but not sure what it's called).
You got it. that is the place. It is very safe. the locals are always a little surprised that we know about the place. guess they wanna keep as there own upscale rock bar secret. I wouldn't go venturing too far away from the entertainmant complex. But the area is very safe and well lit. We have been 5 times in last 2 yrs and nevr seen any trouble. You will notice the local crowd are well dressed and mannered. Everyone is there for the music and ambience.
There was a band that played in paty o's on the 4th, and they really rocked it....esp. if you like AC/DC,,,,,,amazing job with that,, but I was too drunk to ask them the name of the band by the end of the night.
There was a band there when we were there on the 19th Feb ?? they were pretty good , covered aerosmith , red hot chilli peppers etc . No idea what they were called but the crowd enjoyed the performance
