Hello people, This is going to be my FIRST time in Mexico and I have a few questions, wonder if you can help a first comer here ! Many thanks in advance! I am Canadian, and I am wondering if I should bring US dollar or Mexico Peso with me (exchanging in Canada) OR should i bring my CC and get cash (again US or peso?) there with 2.5% on top of whatever exchange rate. Am I able to get wifi or internet access there at the hotel-wide @ the resort? With common sense, is it safe to walk around the city during day and night without getting into any tourist trap? I heard alot about booking restaurant @ Temptation in advance (especially the Italian one). Since I am arriving Saturday (july 24) afternoon, I guess I am out of luck? "time sharing", heard many stories about it... I am avoiding it at all cost? Right move? Thanks ! and hope to see you guys there during my stay from July 24 until Aug 1. Many thanks again.
I have heard that all you need is US Dollars or Credit/Debit card. You will get pesos back if you pay for anything wiht us dollars....but almost everywhere takes us dollars.
Thanks for your comment, but I heard it is around 1US : 10 Peso if you do it local, yet its around 1: 12.5 according to online exchanges that's 25 percent difference. =\
My travel agent just told me not to exchange for pesos. That it wasnt needed beacuse they take us dollars and debit card....so I just assume she knows.
Party girl answered alot of your questions... to add a bit more info- Over our many times there... we have done both day and nite trips. Our last few, we chose to do one day excursion (catamaran booze cruise) and one or two nite (friday nite booze cruise and maybe one of the night club trips that leave out of the lobby at 10p). Daytime is no problem going to the Markets (like market 28), or to the hotel zone where the shops and bars are. Nighttime is safe in the hotel zone as well. Others could offer opinions about venturing elsewhere. Internet is not available resort-wide. Only in the lobby area and there is a charge. Unless if you have a blackberry or i-phone, but beware of your provider charges. We heard they can get obscenely expensive. As far as restuarants, you book at 10am in Margaritas. Get there a bit early. You can book up to 3 days in advance. Our favorites are the Italian and Oriental. Tex-Mex is also good and does not require a reservation. And definitely avoid the timesharing... waste of 2+ hours....
about got everything covered, as far a safety just use a little sence and stay in the tourist areas after dark. as far as the time share do a little reading on the board and look at the amount of dis-satified people. seems they keep changing the rules and not for your advantage.
a few corrections that I would like to add: Wi-Fi is available resort wide. You need to go to the front desk for your username an password to access the wireless network on your laptop. The fee is $15.00 USD for a 24 hour period. The Internet speed is semi-decent. As long as you stay in the Hotel Zone, it is very safe to walk day or night. Just use your common sense. Going to the nightclubs at night with the hotel staff is the best way to go. They will take care of you, but you're on your own coming back. The cost is $45.00 USD Definitely avoid the Time Share sales pitch !! It is a waste of your valuable vacation time. The sales pitch is extremely high pressure !! They won't take no for an answer. After you check in and get your band and key, don't even go to the concierge desk, it's a trap !! Hope this helps, Carlos
we normally take $1000 in trv cks, no problems and the $50's seems to be easier to exchange. we always make 3 copies of passports & trv cks. 1 in carry on, 1 in luggage & 1 left at home. PSSSSS we take $25 per day in $1 bills just of tipping-- make sure like new bills, no marking or torn. locals can not use them. we hit the bank for new bills-- just tell them its for the strip joint.
