Can anyone tell me if they have completed the construction on the resort? We were there in November and they were building what looked like a couple of new rooms in the building near the gym - It didn't help with the headache in the mornings..... :bash:
Lots of construction threads on here if you do a search to get more details, but i can give you a quick update. 1. What you saw them building were show rooms for potential future plans. They are probably almost done, but are not available for guests as they would need an elevator to the 4th floor to be up to Cancun code. 2. No one really knows what is going to happen with the renovations. The resort might get completly shutdown, or might just shutdown in pieces as buildings are completely renovated. 3. All this has been talked for years, and no plan and/or time-frame has every been made official. 4. Everyone likes to say they know will happen, by saying what they been told by a trusted source, or say what the timeshare people told them, but again no one really knows. 5. It's best to just plan your dates, because if you hold off, you might be waiting indefinitely. 6. Regular maintenance still happens daily, so you might see work crew painting, updating a room, or other things. This stuff still needs to happen to keep the current guests happy. It could be anywhere at anytime, and they don't seem to be just letting the place completely fall apart. 7. Having the 3 new rooms actually built, and seeing surveyors walking around doing their thing shows that something is in the works, and it may be soon then later, but again I wouldn't hold my breath.
More or less what I thought. I was just concerned that they may have continued with the additional rooms. We're booked for May 13th and I cannot wait to be pool side with a Cold beer in my hand!! Thanks for the reply! :beer4:
We were there in March, 2016. The new rooms above the gym were built but not ready to be shown during the presentation. One (1) room in the 3000 block looked to be going through total reconstruction. Other than that we didn't see any construction. In July, 2015 they were bring in new lamps to the 1100 section.
I saw a post talking about lining up closure dates with all the booking agencies. I have been watching TTR prices for 2 months. There has been no availability 12/20/2016 and on. I also saw something about lining up renovations with booking agency's that no one has to offer refunds. Not fining anything available after 12/20 on multiple websites. My bet would be that 2016/2017 NYE will be at Grand Oasis Sens or GP I imagine since most cancun resorts on cheapcaribbean 12/20 still offer rates, that this will be when they close for renovations. But then again I have been wrong before. AKA I have had 12+ beers and I am sure that chick over there wants me. THIS IS JUST A GUESS!!!!!!!
I was thinking the same thing, as the booking dates have not opened for 2017, but then I checked for Desire (same owners I believe) and they are only booking a few days later than the 20th of December as well, which makes me feel like this is more about them not having commited to a company wide 2017 price structure rather than them doing a major overhaul that will close the entire resort. Of course I could also be wrong as well....
