A few people have asked for recommendations regarding room locations. Here is a site map for those wishing to specify a room location at check-in.
So what rooms are the best to request? We are newbies from the UK. I was hoping for ocean view but they does not seem to be much choice! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Caz
reminder mexican "oceanview" means if ya can get a see water w/o falling over the railing. you will not be spending much time there anyway.
We paid the extra bucks for an ocean view as we'd never been before and wife really wanted to wake up in the morning and see, smell and hear the ocean. If it's only a glimpse, we'll probably not do that again for our next trip (although our 2nd trip may be to Jamaica!).
Anything overlooking the Paty'O Lounge is going to be very noisy, usually till late in the night/early morning. The music or entertainment stops around 1:00 but the party can keep going through the night. Also rooms near Nice Shoes (bottom left corner of the quiet pool area) are going to be noisy when there is a function held. Rooms overlooking the sexy pool area are quiet during the night but if you are a very late sleeper be prepared to hear music and activities over the PA system starting in the morning (It think around 10:00?). The plus side is that you have a great view Very few rooms have full on ocean view, but many have a nice partial view. The closer you get to the water the better the view. Also, the higher floors will provide better views. We stayed in the 1300's block (jagged line right below Margarita's on the map) last year and had a nice view. This year we were in 1362 (to the right of Bellavista on the map) which overlooked the quiet pool and had a nice view of the ocean. It did have two dbl's instead of a king bed though. I would think the 4400 block, overlooking the road isn't going to be the best choice. I heard people staying there complain of the road noise as well as the undesirable view. The rooms are all non-smoking (smokers use the balconies). They are equipped with fridges, and coffee makers. There are in-room safes. Ours wasn't working when we arrived. I later learned that there is a switch on the hinge side of the door. You can't see it when the door is open...just feel for it. The beds can be pretty hard but a call to housekeeping will get you a mattress pad that will help a lot (based on availability). The red lights above the beds provide nice mood lighting but bringing a few candles is a plus. There are no music channels on TV so you may wish to bring your own player. The staff are all wonderful, from the front desk to the entertainment, bartenders, waiters, maids and maintenance. Friendly and considerate. Tips are very much appreciated (We left 2.00 a day for our maid as well as looking after the bartenders and waiters). The band playing at Paty'O's is great and plays popular tunes that everyone enjoys. Hope that helps new comers. Have a great time! The rooms are clean and the staff does a great job of looking after them.
