Maybe the message is a little old, or maybe not. Don't let this massive bill go through without a debate!

Your action today is urgently needed to help stop mandated taxpayer-funded abortion coverage in the healthcare reform bill before Congress.

As you know since you have participated in Freedom2Care, the administration has announced plans to eliminate a vital conscience protection for healthcare professionals.

Without conscience protections, healthcare professionals can be told to participate in abortions or lose their jobs. That would force many faith-based professionals out of medicine, creating a crisis of patient access to life-affirming physicians, nurses and hospitals.

And now there's a new threat to the conscience rights of all life-affirming Americans.

Now Congress wants you to pay for abortions.

The New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/20/health/policy/20abortion.html?_r=1) today reports, "Health Bill Might Direct Tax Money to Abortion."

Under the current healthcare reform bill in the House of Representatives, the Times reports, "insurers would have to provide an 'essential benefits package' specified by the health and human services secretary, who would receive recommendations from a federal advisory committee."

That means unless Congress explicitly excludes abortion coverage, abortion will be mandated--at the expense of us taxpayers. History has shown that if the law does not clearly state that abortion is excluded, government agencies and the courts will mandate that abortion be a required benefit.

Excluding abortion from public funding is true common ground that all Americans can support. Recent polling data indicate that Americans increasingly identify themselves as pro-life and that a strong majority, as high as 70%, oppose public funding for abortion.

And legislators will back off from abortion mandates--if enough Americans like us speak up now.

    Here's what you can do:

Use the links below to personally contact your legislators and tell them you are a constituent.

Say that you want healthcare reform legislation to SPECIFICALLY EXCLUDE ABORTION from health insurance requirements. Tell them that you as a taxpayer should not have to fund abortions.

    Contact my Senator http://www.senate.gov/contacting/index_by_state.cfm

    Contact my Representative http://www.house.gov/writerep/

P.S. Stay tuned also for a nationwide web cast event about abortion mandates this Thursday, July 23. Details at http://www.stoptheabortionmandate.com/.

Visit www.Freedom2Care.org, a conscience rights coalition sponsored by the Christian Medical Association (www.cmda.org).

This is 2009, grow up and help your fellow women with thier choice. What about those that are abused and raped? Wake up and smell the coffee, abortions will go on no matter what, I supposed you'd prefer women to die having backstreet botched jobs. The humanity from the religous quarter is disgusting

Well I am glad to see that the abortion debate is civil and reserved as ever!

/Personally pro-choice as long as the involved parties are counseled thouroughly so they can make the decision that is right for them.

And attempting to exclude one service on ethical grounds from a public run system opens a pandoras box... for example should blood transfusions be excluded because they are repugnant to mormons? slippery slope stuff.

I am pro-choice but I don't think abortion should be paid by the tax payers. Women should have the right to do whatever they want with their body on their own dime.

Great answers guys. It's all about choice but these days the church seem to want to control everyones lives. I believe in god but in my OWN way, don't need someone preaching to me etc. Funny how the church aren't against vasectomy's, surely thats killing potential life if you look at it thier way etc

depends on which church, right? vasectomies on the sole basis as an end for contraception are not condoned.

    I'd have to agree.
Aside from being a victim of crime or in case of a medical emergency... An individual should have the right to make as many mistakes and bad choices as they can handle. Just don't make someone else (or me) pay for your stupidity!
