Can anyone suggest our best choice to call back to Canada? We expect to have to spend a fair bit of time on the phione, even in paradise. Should we purchase a disposable cell locally, a calling card for a landline etc?

Has anyone had luck using Skype?

    Thanks all !

We are thinking March 7 to 14. Sorry to bug you again but can you give us a bit more info? Are the cards good for room phones or are there payphone type setups? We expect up to an hour a day on the phone; can't hide from work. Any idea of cost? We have been twice to Cabo when it was Desire but had no need for phones so didn't pay any attention.
    Thanks!

I am in Cancun and I use SYPKE all the time. The only way to go.

I do have a friend who has Vonage and he calls free to US and Canada. We have been here since January and all the people use his Vonage phone but with SYPKE and Vonage you have to have internet

We used SKYPE in Costa Rica and it worked fine, although there can be a little lag. We were at TTR Cancun and bought a phone card at the convenience store across the road for $10 (I think), we have a 1 year old and a 3 year old, so we had to (says wife) do the check up twice a day. The important thing to note is that there is a local number on these cards and a 800 number. The difference in minutes is astounding, like 45 minutes or 400 (when using the local). We simply called the local number from our room, perfect connection, no charge upon check out and we didn't even use 25% of the card.

We passed it along to some others who used it the week we left.

    Very easy.
