My recent TELCEL bill had a $78 charge, coded AG, which is for Subscriptions. Not having made any I went for a not too long of a wait (hey, why does every time an agent finishes with a customer, they leave the room, never to return?). The very nice lady explained that I had subscribed to Blinko. ME - How? TELHELL -You opened a text message. ME - You mean I get a text message, read it, deleted without replying and I get charged? TELHELL - Yes sir, and you get to pay $26 a week until you unsubscribe which I will do for you now. And there will be more charges appearing next month. ME - So you will remove the charges? TELHELL - Oh no, they are from Blinko. ME - But I have no contract with Blinko. YOU took my money, not them. TELHELL - (Smiles). Will there be anything else sir? ME - See you at PROFECO. My time is free. I will get my money back. See you. This happened a couple of years ago with Wahuu. I got that money back.. Delivered in person to Stsrbucks. http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/living-cancun-riviera-maya/18647-watch-out-telcel-wahuu-scam.html I found this site about Blinko. It is several years old but the guy did a lot of research. The email link no longer works so I guess he did his good deed and went south. Getting rid of the Blinko scam ... ADVICE - Never open any text message with 4 or 5 numbers where the sender info is shown. Just delete and move on. QUESTIONS: 1. I have a plan. What about you who don't and don't see a bill? TELCEL says Blinko and other ilk just pick a bank of numbers and send these texts. That bank would certainly include plans and prepaid accounts. 2. How does Blinko and other ilk get a 5 digit ID? Bingo - Winner Winner Chicken Dinner. FROM OUR FAVORITE MULTI BILLIONAIRE CARLOS SLIM. Check your bills kids. Using prepay and never seeing a bill? Who knows?
Woow... thanks for the heads up T.J. Hope PROFECO kicks some behind on this one. Let me know if you need "Mr Vigilante" to step in, hehe Ps. Ive only had this "luck" with the damn news they send over the phone. "Just text "BAJA" to unsubscribe", was the answer Telhell gave me. Well, I did that, 13 times(!!) until it finally stopped.
T.J. raised an interesting question for those of us who rely on the Amigo plan; that is, how would we know if we were being charged for things such as these scams, since we don't get monthly statements showing all charges? Has anyone ever requested a statement of charges made to their Amigo plan balance? I wonder if one could be made available, on request.
Gringation, I remember you commenting on the 2011 "experience" thread. Deja vu all over again. Jaja. V, I remember that you can but it's crazy expensive. That is old news though. With the plans you don't get the details of calls or texts, even if you only get the bill online, unless you pay $30 per month. And that is from my original plan of about four years. Scorpio, normally you have to have friends to get text messages. LOL amigo. Let's get together.
