I am a little slow with some things technical but I try to learn. I just learned something that many if not most of you may already know. But for those who don't, here goes. First, I live in an area not serviced by Cablemas or Telmex for internet connection and I connect a lot and work a lot from home and have a connection through the Telcel usb for a 3G account. Now, I have also thought that "3G" referred to the speed of the connection. Well, I found out it doesn't. I has to do with the volume downloaded. I wondered why I had a problem and had to take my usb into the store every few weeks because it became blocked although it was receiving a signal. Seem that the plan I have is for downloading 3G a month and when I reach that limit, it just stops receiving. I am currently paying about $500 pesos a month. To upgrade to a plan with 10G it is about $760 pesos. They also have plans for 5G available in between. Just an FYI. And hope you all have a merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
That sounds like total crapolie to me Jim... 3G is the standard of the network... so that's some funny wordplay on their part... what ever happened to the "illimitado" plans? I think with a blackberry or iphone you can get "unlimited" internet for less than $600 a month.... I read up on it once and it was something like full speed access up til a certain cap like 3 or 4 gb and then it was a 128kbps for the rest of the time until the next cycle started, so it was technically "unlimited" just dirt slow after you reach a certain point, but in any case if speed isn't a big issue for you, you might look into getting a shiny new contract iphone with them and then you can connect it to your computer as a modem.. there are tons of website that will tell you how to do that "tethering".... but you'd probably not want to mention to telcel that that's your plan... good luck... and Merry X-mas!
Thanks, Life. I have a friend who has that plan with his iPhone. It does seems strange that they tell me this after 3 months and having already replaced the chip about 4 times when it gets "blocked."
Just as info - "3G" stands for Third (3) Generation. It is a series of agreed-upon standards. If you want to get your geek juices flowing - have a read. 4G is just being released in the states - namely "Sprint" is the first to roll out offerings based on 4G.
I understood, for the first time, what 3g means when I asked a salesman at Best Buy this question: what ipad should I buy, a regular wifi one or a wifi and 3g one? He told me that a 3g one can be used exactly like a blackberry or smartphone, almost anywhere, but that I'd need to have a blackberry or smartphone plan on it.
im having probs getting connected with cablemas cuz they cant seem to find my house even if it is perfectly central ...2 months already! and i bought the usb modem they gave me 6 gb is apparently a promotion for this month...i got it for 700 pesos but it does disconnect and the download speed is really really really slow!
