Hey everyone i am headed to TTR June 28th til July12th does anyone know if theres a package you can get to go swimming with Great White Sharks? Cheers Ricky
Actually there is a swim with the sharks experience, I'm not sure if they are Great White's but they are certainly big enough and scary enough for it to not matter! It's at the La Isla Aquarium, not in open water, you basically go inside a cage with scuba gear and get dropped among the sharks.
Many thanx for such a quick reply Steve is very much appreciated Im actually terrified of Great Whites and wanted to overcome my fear by goin down in the cage...but goin in the water with any type of big shark would be a cool experience to get me started!
SHARK AT ISLE IT IS A NURSE SHARK (NO TEETH) BUT DEFINATLY SCARY NONE THE LESS IF U HAVE A FEAR OF SHARKS.... I THINK THE BAY SIDE IS LACKING GREAT WHITES AS IT IS NOT VERY DEEP ... BUT DONT QUOTE ME ON THAT
Swimming with sharks is a fantastic experience. If you can do it in the wild I would recommend that over going into an aquarium tank. I'm not sure what sharks you would dive with in the wild around Cancun as caribbean reef sharks are pretty aggressive. We dove with black tip reef sharks and lemon sharks in Moorea last summer (Tahiti). There were at least 30 sharks and they came as close as 3 feet away. It cost us around $200 total for the circle island tour and the dive with the sharks. Below is a link to our album on F/B. There are a couple of shots in it. I have a ton more and some HD video if anyone would like to see more. Just PM me. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=107939&id=1350317120&l=cd93ef9083
Re: SHARK AT ISLE No, that's a completely different activity. Actually I just realised this is available to book online via Ent Plus, see link below: Swim with sharks
Great White or Whale Shark? BIG difference! Great Whites are pretty rare in the Carribbean and Mexico - water is too warm.....they show up every now and then but think you'd pretty much just be bait! Now the WHALE Shark is one you can do from Cancun and they get up to 40 feet long, I'd do that in a HEARTBEAT! Oh yeah, and they won't eat you.
Guys, the whale shark is indeed native to Cancun waters and this is the 'shark' you can swim with from Holbox or Isla Contoy. There is also the Nurse Shark on the Isla Mujeres boat tours, or you may see when diving. However, these are not the tours myself and the OP are talking about, this particular tour at La Isla interactive aquarium might not be Great White's but they are big nasty sharks (Bull Sharks someone mentioned) click the link I posted above for pictures.
