I just returned from Cancun and I just returned from Cancun and Sprint charges me $1.69/minute for cell calls. My business requires some contact while I am on vacation. I have a cell phone obtained in Cancun a couple of years ago. I will be in Cancun in November. Is it cheaper for me to use Is it cheaper for me to use sprint with international roaming or a Mexican carrier with a phone I get going when I arrive in Cancun?
My Telcel plan costs me $5.38 pesos per minute, or fraction thereof, when I call the states, which I only do occasionally as I have both Vonage and Magic Jack here with Florida numbers. Exchange rate is about $12.20 pesos per $1 US today. Those are good options if you have good internet access and headset or a laptop with a mic and speakers. That would be the cheapest way. A great way that I used to use as a tourist, is Cancun Valet. See the link below. Vic, the owner is a long time personal friend and we do MNF each week at La Taberna. I think his rental phone rate is $.69 US per minute, but it is billed per second when the smoke all clears. So that extra second on most other cell options does not cost you a fortune. Don't forget your US carrier will add 18+% in taxes to whatever rate they quote you. A friend from DC has an International roaming plan she uses when here but I cannot remember her carrier. Sprint does not ring the bell; maybe Verizon. Hope this is of some help. There are Starbucks all over town and in the HZ and you can get free internet there with a purchase as the user name, starbucks@infinitummovil and the password espresso23 (currently) are on the receipt. Oops. Sorry about that.
