It's been at least 2 years since I've been to TTR. That being said, that was probably the last time I actually downloaded mp3 files. LOL Since then, Spotify streaming has been the way to go. Since I haven't downloaded music in a good while, how does streaming music at TTR work? I'm sure I need to add a small international dialing/data plan to my phone, but don't want to be shocked with an enormous bill when I return. I know with Spotify you can mark playlists to play "offline,", but I'm sure that still uses some sort of data. I know the WIFI at the hotel only works (part of the time) in the rooms and not at the pool area (unless that has changed). Any suggestions besides going back in time to download mp3 files? Thanks! Good question. Would love to know the answer myself. I plan on bringing an old school ipod with 100 gigabytes of music and a small speaker, just in case. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
Just download the Sirius XM listening app with the free 30 Day trial of online radio and stream it from the WiFi at TTR. Ya get 120 channels for free during the trial. I doubt any of us will be there more than 30 days. Lol
Yeah I don't think the wifi is good enough to be able to stream. You would definitely have some silent moments waiting, and I don't think it would reach the beach. There are new apps like "NextRadio" that actually use the FM component of your phone to stream music. These use like 20 times less data and less battery then a regular streaming app like Spotify. Do some digging ahead of time and find a few stations that play the type of music you are looking for. Then just check with your phone carrier and make sure you are able to use your data in Mexico. (I think many of the major carriers are allowing this now for free, or maybe a small fee for just one month). I personally have been rocking the same 4GB ipod nano and old portable speaker for like 5 years now. I decided to upgrade for my upcoming trip (and summer beach-time) then just have all my music on a 32GB Ipod touch with one of them sand/waterproof little JBL speakers.
I download my Spotify playlists for my yoga classes so I can put my phone in airplane mode and still have my music while offline. I can also listen to my downloaded playlists on the airplane without wifi. Works great for me!
Not sure how it works on Android but with the iPhone you can go into the settings and select which apps are allowed to use data. I select Airplane mode and then enable wi fi so I don't use any data.
Forget about streaming at the resort. Just bring an old phone and load it with MP3 files, and a good MP3 player . I use a small external speaker ,,, Boombot,, in the room. I left it out for 2 week , no one touched it .
