I keep waking up every morning with severe pain in where I think my kidneys are (my back but close to the sides), it's unbearable and I can't go back to sleep, no matter what position, although lying on my right side is a bit worse than on the left or on my back. It takes a real effort to lift myself up but when I get up and walk around for 5 mins, it just disappears. I have noticed if i sit down that the pain lingers for longer and it seems to be getting worse, whereas the pain would almost go with a walk down the stairs before, it is now there longer. Anyone have any ideas? I found lots of forums with people with the same problem but the only suggestion was to drink more water and that doctors aren't helpful!
I had a similar problem a few years ago and it turned out to be a kidney infection. It was easily fixed with a visit to the Red Cross and some antibiotics. It never got to be that bad because I fixed it fairly quickly, but I felt sore on both sides of my mid-lower back (just below the ribs). It hurt mostly at night, when I was lying down in bed. Hope you can figure out what it is!
Try putting a couple of pillows under you knees. if the pain subsides, it could very well be a vertrbrae prob, although I hope not! Good luck!
This has nothing to do with kidneys, but I suffered from diverticulitis and I had some of those same symptoms. Have any intestinal problems?
