So now you decide to jump in? To protect a newcomer who is running people off?
Ban me as you have others or get ready to delete my messages but I will NOT go private with something that is public. I cannot believe you are willing to let people leave and let your message board go to hell. You are not the only one that has made cancuncare famous and successful. Lots of us have helped.
Really sad to see it end like this.

Jim, I dont think you understand. I'm not giving you an option, I'm telling you to take your personal gripes off the board, and for the sake of clarification I dont want the PM system used for it either. Answer me this, what do you or I or anybody else gain by posting your spats in public or by PM's?

And for your information, no one has been banned. RG and Mixz were mistakenly banned for all of about 5 minutes when I altered some of their permissions due to their wish to no longer contribute, not having had to do that before with this software. I quickly removed the ban as soon as I realised, although it seems the 5 minutes was long enough for them to send out a gazillion emails to everyone they know to tell them what a bad guy I am.

I totally agree with Steve on this subject. I do NOT care about or want to read about every little childish tantrum that is thrown about every little thing. I am just amazed at how grown people have handled this whole thing.

Now if you guys want to get into the cage and fight it out I will certainly watch that!!

One last login to set the record straight re Steve

There is truth to Steve's comment, although his idea of my reaction is way off base. There were 4 people who received my initial email concerning having been banned. All have been apprised of Steve's unfamiliarity with operation of VBulletin, and he did rescind the dreaded ban quite quickly. As I'm logged in at the moment, I don't know what "Inactive" means, at least to Steve and VBulletin, but I don't really care either.

And I agree with all the posters who said this needed to be taken off the board. An effective moderator would have handled that a long time ago. I'm now gone, inactive, banned; don't care.

    Subject: Banned?

“As per their implied request, members who wish to leave have been set to inactive member status and should contact me via email should they wish to become active members again.”

If you read my post, I didn’t say I was leaving. I did say I would be available by PM to other members and I would reduce my participation in the board. I guess you’re not happy with that level of participation so you’ve isolated me completely, or at least you think you have.

You’re failure to see the deep schism that V has inflicted on the board is a troubling failure. I don’t know. Maybe you’re under the impression that he’s generating extra page views. That you can’t see that when I objected to his Nazi references, and when several others supported my objection, V came back with the statement that he would continue to use the offensive terminology even if it hurt me, is troubling. Or perhaps it’s because you share his views and his insensitivities and therefore see no wrong.

Banned? After your assertion that you’d not ban me. Of all the people to ban, me? No explanation. Just turned me off. Okay. I’ll leave you to V and Life as they reshape your board. After the many instances where I reached out and attempted to help you during your software and hardware struggles, when I offered you my hardware to keep the board up after your stuff got stolen, you cut me off without a word of explanation. Feeling powerful now? Back in control of your runaway train? I think not. This childish banning is the perfect example of how you’ve let the board deteriorate. Too bad you don’t realize who your friends were or where your best interests lay. Too late now. Goodbye, Steve.

First of all, let me thank you for years of providing a forum for locals, tourists, wannabes et al. This board and your patience, tolerance and understanding have helped a lot of people and allowed a lot of people to be helped by other contributors on this board.

2.- Thanks for not banning me and/or just deleting my post outright and giving me an opportunity to respond.

3.- I agree that personal feuds should not be permitted here however this has become a public issue and as such needs to be treated as such. JMHO.

4.- I realize that this is not a democracy. The website owner has ultimate control over the content of the domain. So I am not asking for a vote although the outcome would be interesting I am sure. I am not alone in feeling and thinking that one person has done a lot of damage here and needs to be reined in just as much as anyone who flames. Again JMHO

5.- Why should I even care if someone wants to post lots of information that no one else responds to or takes up band width or runs people off? It really is none of my business. I just felt part of something that had become an international Cancun institution over the years and hated to see it going downhill and degenerating into what it has degenerated into.

6.- I am glad you did not ban anyone. I do hope that some changes will happen. I am sure this will all die down. I hope that what is left is worth what we have all gone through. Thanks again for the opportunity to speak.

    Steve,

I am not a frequent poster, but certainly a frequent reader for 4 or 5 years and have to say that without Rivergirl or Jim here, there would be very little reason to come to this forum.

They both post or have posted a tremendous amount of QUALITY and USEFUL information as opposed to the “other” that just rambles on and on about things that most “appear” to not care about.

I was thinking that I should start posting more to try and contribute a couple of week’s back, only to have that thread taken over with useless rambling and bickering about something as silly as to take the first or second street when they both get you to the same place?? Personally I think that there is one person that is the cause of people being agitated.

What I do, do, however is use this forum as a dependable source for updated accurate info and pass this on to sites such as tripadviser to try and shed an accurate account on coming to vacation in Cancun and having a great time. Which hopefully in one way or another helps us all. Not to mention that I FREQUENTLY link back to this site for people asking about things like spring break and Temptations.

But I have to say that the quality of info on here has been drying up as of late. Especially if Rivergirl does leave, Jim posting less and less, Dangers rarely here any longer.

Personally if I pass by the forum and see a single letter as the thread starter or thread ender, I rarely even bother to stay. After all, this is not a blog forum. You have to wonder when your site often shows as many as 15 or 20+ people viewing each forum, why more are not posting?

Feel free to take my post in consideration or disregard it, the choice is yours. But I thought out of respect for your efforts in providing a quality forum that I should tell you as opposed to just not coming back myself or more importantly to you, not linking tourist’s here as often as I do.

Wow...just wow! I have never officially "met" JiminCancun, but have seen his many posts on many message boards over the years. Based on what I have seen of his character, always measured and reasonable, the tone of his post took me aback! My feeling is that he thinks before getting ticked off and therefore may have some valid points if he's finally been taken to the point of getting so irritated! Just my two cents...

But in general, what a train wreck! I don't have a stake in this conversation either way...but I think it's crazy that it sounds like friendships have ended over these message board issues.

And I, too, am very tired of wading through endless posts by the same person, posts with tangents and nonstop rumination. I do agree that one would not ban anybody just for being longwinded and pedantic, but these endless rambles do have a secondary effect on the board. It gets otherwise productive conversations off-track, it breaks up people's responses. There have been many times when I've wanted to reply to someone's comment, then get snagged scrolling down through these endless responses, and then by the time I am ready to respond, I've lost my train of thought. I ultimately lose interest and end up not posting. I like this community but am not invested enough to wade through dozens and dozens of responses that are like hair balls in the drain to me.

I'm not angry or upset, as I said, I'm not invested enough to feel that strongly. But the simple fact that one person has created this feeling in me makes me think that this board would be much more lively if all of us on-the-fencers were not exhausted and bored by this recent explosion of monolgues! :0

Just like in any community (and please be patient with me...I work in community development and have been doing a lot of reading and trainings about this) be they online or offline, sometimes community members need a gentle nudge regarding the standards of behavior agreed on by that community. Of course, if someone is outwardly rude or racist or offensive, that reminder should be much stronger, but the subtler, less cut and dried behavior that some exhibit should also be addressed.
