I have read that Cozumel is one of the best places to snorkel. Is this true, Do they have boat trips that take you out to the reef? Does anyone recommend any? thanks
Cozumel is definitely a great place to snorkel. As soon as you get off the ferry from Playa del Carmen, you'll have a whole lot of guys selling you trips to the reef, negotiate and pick one you like, they're practically all the same I believe.
Thanks, so basically I want to go to the reef to snorkle- Is it called something in particular?? THanks again
It's a big stretch of reef all around Cozumel. The most popular snorkel spots are Chakanaab and Dzul Ha. When looking for a tour, ask how many sites they hit (usually two or three), if they offer refreshments, equipment etc, and how long the trip is. Expect to pay around 400 pesos ($40 US) per person and don't forget to tip your guide at the end. While Cozumel is the best, I would say there is some good snorkeling in Puerto Morelos and off Isla Mujeres as well. It's all part of the same reef. I've tried them all and like them all for different reasons, but I think I saw the best coral formations off Cozumel. Good luck! Oh, I wouldn't snorkel off of Cancun itself, not much to see at all!
