Hi, my gf and I will be visiting Cancun for the first time in early September and I have some questions about snorkeling:

    1. Is it necessary to join paid snorkeling tours or are there places by snorkeling areas where we will be able to rent gears and life vests?

    2. We will be staying in Cancun but would like to visit Akumal (heard good things about snorkeling there). Are there shuttle service from/to the place? And how much would taxi fare be?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
