You don't need Powerpoint for the link to the slideshow at the bottom of this post. I got this wonderful message forwarded from a friend:

    Dear friends and family,

I was working on the day the Center For the Intrepid opened at Ft. Sam Houston and only got to watch the ceremonies on the BAMC TV. The Center is a multimillion dollar rehabilitation facility built and operated by private funds for our wounded soldiers. The day it opened and was dedicated was a day to honor the wounded soldiers themselves, still in recovery at BAMC and in the Army Burn Center. These guys are terrific, in spirit, courage and true grit. They are not going to be warehoused in VA hospitals across the country; with new technology giving them back lost limbs and surgical advances in Burn and Restorative medicine, they are going back to their families and starting new lives; some are staying on active duty by choice. Many are into extreme sports. Though disfigured by burns and wearing artificial limbs, they are not hiding, they are wearing their wounds as true badges of courage. And the population around them is more accepting also. While war is hell, we always seem to come out of war with new advances in medicine, technology etc. which spill over into how we do things in the civilian sector, a big example being the EMS. I am seeing the beginnings of a new advance, one of the spirit where we will not see the "handicapped" as we once used to but the new advances will bring our general population new opportunities to continue productive lives after tragedy.

These are professional soldiers who chose to serve their country. We owe them a lot, and they will continue to be needed no matter which way the political winds blow. The safety of our country, of our children and grandchildren will be in their hands. Please continue to keep them in prayer and give them all your support. God Bless,

    Toni Briscoe, RN
