commiting relatively "minor" crimes? Any thoughts? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/03/AR2006100301286.html Michelle
Thats a tough one to answer. The big problem is in defining what crimes are subject to deportation and what level of citizenship would be affected. Someone who makes the effort to become a legal citizen through all the proper channels should be given the same rights as myself in my opinion. Someone on a visa or temporary status better behave like an altar boy in my opinion. In cases like murder or other serious crimes though I think punishment in the US justice system is a much better idea than dropping them off across the border in Juarez. Speeding ticket........no DWI........maybe Assault........definately Drug sales.........definately When you look at how harsh other countries are with laws regarding foreigners I feel that the US could be a more responsible in protecting its citizens.
It's interesting that you mention DWI/DUI's....here in IL they recently changed the law so that anyone with a suspended/revoked license that's charged with a DUI now is looking at an aggravated felony, rather than a misdemeanor. Lotta Mexicans now looking at deportation because of that change in the law. An I totally agree with ya lambert! Michelle
I agree with Lambert with the exception of the dui/dwi...I think a much harsher penelty is needed for all who drive under those conditions. I am glad to hear in IL they are making it a felony under certain circumstances. For the most part I think driving while intoxicated is like firing into a crowd...chances are pretty good someone will be hurt or worse :!: So anyway there's my 5 cents worth :!:
Well there is such a wide scale including minor.... BUt for major sure get rid of them let their own country deal with them. It should be a privledge to live in our country and if you screw up that chance sure get rid of them..
