Does anyone have info on shorefishing in the Hotel Zone? We are staying at Grand Park Royal Cancun Caribe 2/9-15.

My husband is planning on bringing a travel rod. **Is there anywhere that bait/tackle can be purchased since hooks are not so much a TSA approved carry-on item?**

Also are there any restrictions or recommendations for shore fishing? I don't really need him ending up in a Mexican jail for violating local laws. :)

I plan on bringing a travel surf fishing rod myself in March. How did your husband make out?
I've read on other fishing forum websites, fish can be caught from shore usually early morning and dusk. Hooks and tackle can be in checked luggage.
Also, read that fishing from shore is legal without a license, but after a certain hour the police may ask you to stop, since regular sun bathers and beach goers start to populate the beach. Report back on how your vacations went =)
