Plaza Kukulcan, Plaza La Isla and Plaza Caracol are what you are looking for. All in the HZ. Caracol is the oldest and the least interesting. Pretty much at Party Center, across from the big tall Riu.

La Isla is next and on your right at km 12. Not an enclosed mall but great with lots of restaurants and shopping. Has a theater.

Kukulcan is on the left at km 13. More upscale, including a section called Luxury Avenue, loaded with designer mdse and stores.

Probably the closet mall is Plaza Las Americas / Malecon Americas, which is downtown. 3 big dept stores, Dorians, Liverpool and Sears. Lots of cool stores and restaurants and a Cinepolis theater with their VIP version as well. About $8 US but big leather recliners and waiters who take your order. Booze, pizza, sushi, and more brought to your seats.

Your hotel is at km 3 so to get to the first 3 malls, cross the street and get on any bus.

To get to the one downtown mall (we have more than one) I suggest any bus on the same side of the street as they all go downtown. After km 0 is the beginning of downtown. Get off and catch a taxi for $20 pesos total and tell them Plaza Las Americas and you are good to go.

To get "home" catch a cab back to downtown. Leaving from the taxi stand is a bit more, like $35 or maybe $40 pesos. Maybe have them take you to Palacio Municipal and walk around that street. You will have to then cross the street to catch a bus back to the HZ. This is NOT any bus. All of the R-1's will take you back or any other bus that says Hotels, Hoteles or Zona Hotelera will do the job.

    Enjoy your trip.

A taxi ride in the downtown area is pretty much $20 pesos, or about $1.60 US, per ride, not per person. Certain places, like the malls, the bus station, Walmart, etc. have what we call sitios, sort of like taxi stands and they cost more if you get them there. Normally they are $35-$45 pesos but I cannot say 100%. Better to leave the mall for example, and flag them down from the public street. Then it's $20 pesos. The exchange rate is about $12.50 pesos per $1 US but the easiest thing to do is just take 10% of the peso price and you will be close enough.

So what I am saying is, take the bus for $7.5 pesos ($.60 US) per person from the hotel to the downtown area. Then hop off, flag a cab and pay them $20 pesos. Reverse the process to get back to the HZ, BUT it is a tad bit more if you get the cab from what even remotely looks like a taxi stand. So if you get to the mall and want to go to Walmart, it will be either $35 or $20, depending on whether you get the cab as you walk out of the mall, where they may be lined up or if you walk out to the public street and flag one down.

Is this the answer you are looking for?

From Walmart, you can actually go to the street to the right of the front of the store and you will pass the sitio/taxi stand but when you get to the street, about 10-20 yards to the left is a bus stop for the R-2, R-15 and maybe the R-27. In any event if the window on the bus says anything remotely like Hotels, it will take you there for $7.5 pesos.

I hope the Malls are doing better, back in October a lot of stores were shut down due to the slow economy.

Every time I go to Paseo Cancun it seems like another store has closed. The independants don't stand a chance.

    Too bad.
