I need a new motor for a Mercedes and they are cheaper by far in the USA, does anyone know if I buy one online and get it shipped here will there be any other taxes/fees/duties or other cr*p to pay?

Or do I just pay the price of the motor, the shipping, and in a few days there's a smiling man at my door with a new motor?

Thanks Nico - yep looks like a bit too much hassle. I'll get one for DF instead I think.

in about 2004 I had to buy a motor for a bmw. I had it shipped from the U.S. it was very easy but, I had to pay a importation tax on it even though it was going into a car with a temporary permit.

    Hi John,

Thanks for that. I don't suppose you remember how much the tax and shipping were roughly do you?

I've found a motor in the US for about 1000 bucks, and I'm looking at about 30k pesos for one in DF. so trying to figure if it is worth shipping one in.

    Thanks

    Mat

    Mat,

I've shipped various household goods and tools to the house in Mexico. The last time I was hit with a tax approximately 2 1/2 years ago it was 10% of the declared value.

Mat, the shipping was not that significant and with the tax was still cheaper than what I could have bought in Mexico. At that point the parts for my bmw sold in America were different than the same model sold in Mexico. I felt much more comfortable buying from the u.s
