My local buddy was telling me about the share a cab service to the HZ. A lot of hotel workers use it. They gather around Bonampak and Kukulkan and you try to fill a cab with 4 people all going to the same general area of the HZ. This way, everyone pays just 20-25 pesos.

I didn't do it the first night but its faster than the bus if you don't mind getting in a cab with strangers (which isn't really much different than the bus)

Done it a "million" times. :)

Never had any issues, and its a nice break from the sardine-cans, ehrm... Hotel Zone buses, from time to time.

It works for sure if there is a single destination but you can probably negotiate differently.

In town if you say"drop me off at Walmart and my friend off at Costco" that is two fares/rides/trips.

Rawkus, can you get multiple stops in the HZ for one fare?

You can get a shared cab to Playa Del Carmen for (I think it is still) $ 45 per person. The cabs actually hang out on Tulum about a block north of the bus station in parking spaces. Any number up to four shares the fare of $ 180 & the drop off point is the bus station in Playa.

TJ: Yes, multiple stops is fine. Ive never been in one where everyone gets off at the same place. :)

Ive gone as far as KM 17 and it still ran me 20.

But... going as short as 5 KM also ran me 20, so its like the buses: You pay the same price, regardless the distance.

Car and all, that is good to know if I am ever cabbing it alone. But if I am with 2 or 3 ppl and we are together, then we start negotiating. But $20 per person is a great deal for nearly anywhere.
