Hello everyone, I'm just writing this to warn you not to bring your laundry to Sha-va laundry service in downtown Cancun (not too far from Plaza Las Americas).

I have been bringing my laundry there since I've arrived. I never had any issues till now.

I brought my laundry there on Wednesday, the lady who runs the place told me my laundry would be ready on Thursday. I went on Thursday evening to pick it up and the man who works evenings there told me because there was a lot of laundry, with bedding one of the ladies brought it home to finish it. He asked me to go back the following day.

Upon going there on Friday the same man was there. He told me that my "amigo" came and picked up my laundry! I am here working mostly, I have no "amigo's" in Cancun other than the company I work with and our partner. No one know's I take my laundry to Sha-va and above all... they did not have the receipt to pick up the laundry in the first place! Who gives out laundry to random people claiming to be a friend of someone's without a ticket?

So 95% of all of my clothing is now in the hands of a thief. Please do not use the Sha-va laundry service.

I used to use them and never had any problems during the 6th months I lived nearby. Then again, this was 6 years ago :) haha

TJ: It's on Acanceh (behind Sports City)

    Thanks L

I know where it is now. If I have the opportunity I will steer people clear of there.

WORLD COMES CLEAR - I assume that they gave you some sort of claim ticket. I would suggest first telling them you want your clothes or you will go to PROFECO. If they don't have them, I think Profeco could compel them to reimburse you, at least something. If the cleaners don't do certain things they can get some serious fines (multas).

I have been there a couple of times. The very first was a claim of $11,000 Mxn over some furniture. The company, formerly at the top of the escalator at Gran Plaza (now gone) ended up getting fined 3 times, $3,000 each so they ended up giving me my $11,000 and another $9,000 to Profeco.

I went with a friend about 10 days ago who cancelled a res at a condo hotel to which she had made a deposit of $1,500. They refused to give her a refund or allow her to change her dates by a few days. Off to Profeco and the next thing you know, she has a satisfactory settlement from the owner of the particular condo/apt.

It is a pain for the business to go there and explain themselves, although the Profeco clerk will try to reach them by phone. If you are persistent you can eventually get them to a negotiation at Profeco. You do need to be able to substantially prove your case. You need a statement, receipts, copy of ID and off you go.

They are on Coba, behing Chedraui, next to OXXO.

    Good luck. Keep us posted.

T.J., you're turning into the best ombudsman/consumer protection service in Cancun!

    Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the info everyone. I have been very persistent as all items I estimate around $2,500 dollars. They are lying through their teeth stating my friend came and picked them up. They wanted to go to my place of work to point out who came and took them. They also wanted to come to my house to make sure I am not indeed lying and have the clothes/bedding/duvet cover at my house. The owner is also calling me a liar. I will contact the Profeco, thank you so much! I will keep you posted.

Good luck World. The state of mind / culture here seems to be that it is never the fault of the person who screws up.

Just have a good case file before you go to Profeco. The more organized you are the better your chances for justice. Why on earth would they give your clothes to someone else, without your written authorization and without your claim ticket, which presumably you have in your "evidence pkg."

@Valgunn - of course it will go fine now, since I've submitted my complaint they won't dare do this while they're under investigation.

I went to Profeco, they are on my side and agree the clothes should not have been given out without a ticket. They have summoned the owner of the laundry mat from Mexico City to meet with me in-front of a Profeco Lawyer later this month.

Thank you very much for the suggestion, it looks like some progress is being made. I'm so thankful for your information.

I have good news! I have settled with the help of Profeco and Sha-Va... I am happy to know Profeco supports those from out of country. Although it still doesn't get my clothes back, I am however happy with the outcome. It's very nice to know there is such services as Profeco available to us.
