Just wondering if anyone has ever sold a car at the Sunday Car Tiangus, at the Stadium... Is it free? What time to get there, any other important information, etc., etc... I plan on going by there tomorrow to see what I can find out, but knowing how that usually goes here, I wanted to ask if anyone had personal experiences to share. Many thanks...
Hi Kris, I have sold two cars at the tiangus and these are my recommendations...GO EARLY!! Take someone along with you to hang out with...it could be a long day. Bring plenty of something to drink. Make sure you have all your paperwork. It cost 60 pesos to park there. Good luck!
Did you set up for the new buyer to meet you at the bank the following day? You just park the car and people look at it and make an offer? They don't have to drive it? I've only ever driven by it, so I really have no idea what actually happens there! Thanks!!
I've never sold a car there, but we did buy ours there. It's just a case of buyers walking round asking the owners questions, agreeing a price etc. For low value cars I'd bet cash is often used and people drive it away on the day, for higher priced you'd agree with the owner how to take the sale forward. Personally, I'd never buy a car without driving it first and you should expect that people will want to test drive it. Obviously you don't let them go off with the car without you! and it would be best to take a friend along with you for your own personal safety.
Tianguis Kris, I've sold 3 cars and a motor scooter at the tianguis and what everyone says is true. I would add, you can get a "contrato de compra y venta" at a Papeleria which avoids you having to go to the vehicle registration place. It's a contract between buyer and seller that also absolves you of any responsibility for whatever happens with the vehicle from that day forward. It's legal. I've done it all 3 times. In fact, a guy came here from Mexico City and bought a Jeep from me with nothing but the contract. That way he didn't have to register it here, then do it again in Mexico City. It's taken about 5 or 6 Sundays of sitting up there 5 or 6 hours to sell each vehicle. Good luck. (it's pronounced tiahn geese but spelled tianguis)
Where is this place? I plan on moving to the area in July and will want to start looking for a car as soon as I get there. Thanks.
Located on and about Ave. Kabah outside the futbol stadium. Basically west of the "tourist" Walmart where you would turn left at the 2nd light after Walmart. The cars for sale even migrate across Kabah and are just parked anywhere where you could properly or improperly park one.
