We stayed at this resort a couple of years ago. It's a fairly large complex with an older building closer to the beach, and a much more modern area of rooms called Riviera Suites further away, closer to the road. We stayed at the Riviera and the room was excellent.
Activities are just "ok"... nothing too exciting going on. Don't have very high expectations. Just the usual volley in the pool, bingo, etc. Night shows also "so-so."
Personally, I did not care so much for those activities. The beach is phenomenal there! Especially if you take a walk South of the resort it's like a "calendar picture scene"
That's what makes this place really worthwhile!!
Food is all right, service very nice as in all Mexico.
No disco on site. Very family oriented.
Did not go to "Coco Bongo" but basically, you're very close to Playa's downtown area where there are tons of really nice bars and great atmosphere everywhere. You should be able to have a fantastic time at the Sandos! Enjoy!!

Cool. We just received an email from this resort trying to get us to come down on a timeshare pitch. The price is like 500 for 5 nights. Tried to find the resort on Expedia to do research but it doesn't show up on there. May have to give this a try and just tell them that we will have to visit again to make up our mind on the time share that we wont make our decision on just one trip.lol. Sounds like you enjoy the hotel.

We are several months late on this post, sorry.
But, we really enjoyed Sandos. Took the kids. Lots of topless on the south end of the resort and a long stretch of undeveloped beach going south for as far as you can see. Good value for a family.

Travelocity has some great deals going on for Sandos Playacar Beach Resort. 7 nights with airfair from Atlanta to Cancun non-stop $402pp. We just booked ours for May, and thinking about booking another for September. It has to be some kind of mistake but they have charged the trip to my cc already :)
