We finally have a week booked off for a trip in June ! I've read numerous reports about the increase in gang violence in Mexico and because of that are considering going to the Domican instead of TTR What are everyone's thoughts on this ? Is it safe? Is the media blowing it out of proportion?
I wouldn't say its blown out of proportion, but there is a certain filter that need be applied. These killings are aimed at those involved with the drug industry there, not tourist. If you don't involve yourself with that industry you will have nothing to worry about. The normal danger associated with going anywhere on this planet, where you don't go certain places at certain times of course applies. I think its basically the same as its always been for the most part. When were you thinking of going anyway?
Come on down we will be there end of June, love to meet and party with ya, been to Cancun several times it's like any big city in the USA there's parts you stay out of, Just use common sence and you will be fine, don't take A cab over us US transfer don't go off resort by yourself take another couple with ya, but just being on resort and parting you will be fine, that's there money there gonna take care of ya, hope to see ya end of June
No worries if staying on resort grounds. Stay away from dealers and probably just as safe as most U.S. cities if venturing off the property. We are there June 16-21!

Coming from a Doninican that is THE BIGGEST LIE I have never left the resort in D.R. But have taken my children to Cancun bus and everything. I feel alot safer in Cancun sad but true....
Stats can be manipulated to suit any ones argument . Best to come on here and here what real people have to say . That said I have never had so many drugs/cocaine offered to me on the beach by numerous drug dealers ,, hope they don't have a turf war in front of the resort .
