Hello, I am planning, maybe, to come and live in Cancun, zone hetelera, maybe Portofino condominium. I want to buy a nice car: grand Cherokee or similar, brand new. What abut this? I am risking to be overexposed to criminals? I would use the car to move me in safe tourist zones only actually. Maybe to go downtown sometimes only in big shopping centers. I know most of the residents in Portofino condominium they have Mercedes or BMW cars. Please let me know, only if you have direct experience in this matter. Thank you
I would say expensive cars attract no attention here. My drug dealer neighbor has three of them. Most parking lots have many late model as well as expensive cars sitting in them. Theft is so little a problem here that many of these are left on the streets at night, unguarded. The problem can be with vandalism, keying mainly, especially it seems if the car is black, then the mark will really show! Choose a neutral color, such as grey....
"I would say expensive cars attract no attention here. My drug dealer neighbor has three of them." SNORT, SNORT SNORT.................................................!!! Hey!!! It doesn't snow in Cancun, does it...???
Have to admit this same fear crossed my mind a few months ago when we bought our latest car. While it's not brand new nor ultra expensive it's nice enough for me to have considered this issue. So far, no problems and it's nice to see how the folks driving wrecks with no insurance give you a wide berth because they know if they cause an accident it's going to cost them dearly.
Hahahaha... ROTFL! That's poetry man... I will check on my drug dealers neighbors as well... That was in fact another of my thoughts: maybe in Portofino they are all into e drug 'field', so nobody steal cars from them.... And what about the police, are they gonna to stop you more frequently if they spot a brand new car? Thanks guys for replies
Expensive new cars attract no attention, here. My neighbor's latest addition is a bright red Porsche of some kind, a Cayman S? He also has a Mercedes Roadster and a black and grey Hummer with smoked glass windows. Your choice will blend in.... Frequently drive your new car at high speeds, or run traffic lights, and it will attract the attention you spoke of! Enjoy! _______________________
Hi, I read a out this news: http://radioquintanaroo.com/restaur...-por-zetas-para-ubicar-a-personas-adineradas/ It seems like going to fancy restaurants can be dangerous since they can kidnap you... Should I go eating at McDonald's ?
Eating at nice restaurants, like driving nice cars, is another thing that will not attract attention here. _______________ I'll admit, I was a little apprehensive about living anywhere in Mexico, including Cancun. But, within weeks of arriving, I began to register that really expensive cars were being left on the streets at night without disappearing. I also noticed that, although many people had protected their air conditioners with barred cages, others were just mounted on cement palates on the ground, totally unprotected, and they were not disappearing. I also glanced over my shoulder frequently when walking on the streets at night, and gave wide berth to middle twenties aged young men, but none seemed to take notice of me. With the passage of time, I began to realize that I was not facing a threat around every corner. I still glance around my apt when I come home, to see if my wide screen TV is still in the place I left it, but so far, nothing has been amiss. I think it's fair to say that the threat level is about what it would be in any big city of the U.S., the "big, bad Zetas" notwithstanding. Those who can put such imaginings out of their minds can enjoy living here. This is one area of life where a "vivid imagination" can work against you.
