    safe deposit box

Do these exist here? I've never seen them at any banks I've been to.

In Canada (and the States I assume) all banks have them.

    Gracias

I have a friend who has one "in Las Americas", by which she means in the mall somewhere. Where exactly I'm not sure. I may be seeing her tonight and if I do I will ask her.

Yes, there are some at Plaza AMERICA (NOT Plaza las Americas), which is the small place at the right hand when you go from downtown to the hotel zone. Between Tulum and Bonampak.

I rented one when I first arrived, they are very... safe :D and secure. Sorry, I don't remember the name of the company but I was very satisfied. Several sizes, from documents to big things.

Yes, jenleib is correct. First National Bank in Plaza Americas (not Las Americas as I said earlier) has safety deposit boxes. I saw my pal today and that's what she said. Plaza Americas is located on Coba, between Tulum and Bonampak, on the south side.

    Follow up

Just a follow up here, I went and saw these folks. A small box is about $1000 pesos a year. You can also rent for three or six month terms. They have really big ones available too.

It all appears very secure and safe.

The SD box I rent in Colorado costs me $18 USD per year, that's a big price difference.

It's true, banks in Canada charge about $30 a year...but boxes appear to be this company's only business.

Banks have about a billion ways to make money off of you!
