:sunny:Another one that can no longer qualify for rentista. nevertheless intend to travel to cancun end of summer.man from Sarajevo, speaks English and German I want to rent a room from an English speaking person, if possible.any help? what would happen if did not happened?
I don't think you'll find it hard to rent a modest priced room here, either sharing, as you suggested, or living in a community situation such as you might find in a hostel. It appears Bosnia-Herzegovina is not among those countries whose citizens can enter Mexico visa free; so, you could stay up to the expiration of your visa, then would have to exit the country. If you had longer term ambitions here a lot would depend on your ability to afford the travel that would be required; for example, if you got a job offer you could return to your country, get a visa with permission to work, then return to Mexico and stay as long as you could continue to string together employment so as to avoid a break in your immigration status, which would then continue, so long as you were able to renew it from year to year, based on employment.
thanks V , I Belong to Those who are trying to live in $ 1100, no problem to get a visa for 6 months, it remains to be seen what happens later. Anybody who wants to share an apartment or house with a decent price, please reply !
OK, I do believe you could live a modest lifestyle here, without working, on $1,100 USD/month. If Mexico issues multiple entry tourist visas, you might be able to do what those who are here long-term without resident permits can do, exit to Belize, then reenter Mexico. I suppose it takes about eight hours, each way, and is not very expensive on the intercity buses. (Sorry if I'm just restating what you already have thought of!) Here's a couple of threads that could shed some further light on the issues. http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/living-cancun-riviera-maya/16621-can-i-live-my-social-security.html http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/living-cancun-riviera-maya/25602-entry-exit-belize.html
thanks again v , I would not want to rent a motel room, but it seems that this will be the only option, at least at first, can you tell how much would I have to pay to stay in a dicent hotel/ motel on a monthly basis nenad
Others will have had more experience with your exact question, but I think staying in a hotel, even one as modest as costing 250-350 pesos per day would eat up a lot of your budget. Seen as an expedient, however, and bending all efforts to find a semi permanent place to stay I think you could limit your hotel stay to no more than two weeks, possibly less.
If someone has a modest apartment in a safe and decent area, convenient to public bus transportation, and wanted to share their two or three bedroom home, you should expect to pay in the vicinity of $3,200 MXN per month. This would or should get you a private room, shared bath, electric, water, gas for cooking and water heater, cable tv, Internet and drinking water Divide by about $12.60 to convert to USD. I just computed all this for a friend. Of course you need to eat, get around town and have some fun. I would think though that someone with modest expectations could pull this off. Another option for leaving and returning to Mexico is a cheapie flight to Fort Lauderdale or Orlando, Florida. Unfortunately there are currently no flights where you can leave and return to Cancun the same day. So a hotel or park bench would be needed. Belize is not always a smooth transition out of Mexico and back. Immigration agents have been known to tell you that they know what you are doing, it is not legal, etc., all for the purpose of extracting a bribe.
Agree with a quick trip via Spirit to FLL might work better than a trip to Belize. Make sure to check out Visas requirements for both countries though, as a Bosnian might be easier to go to Belize than the US.
Thanks for the information.Steve, you are right no belize visas for Bosnian citizensI look forward . what is life without freedom of movement, thought and time . nenad
Jahac, I hadn't thought of the fact that a multi entry Mexican tourist visa, allowing visits to Mexico for a fixed period of up to 180 days, wouldn't be all you'd need if you wanted to live in Mexico long-term without having a resident permit of some kind: you'd also need a multi-entry visa for the country to which you went after leaving Mexico, if your purpose was just to exit and reenter Mexico. You said "no Belize visas for Bosnians". Do you mean none, or just hard to get? Some are easy marks for this type of activity: others never pay bribes. Part of avoiding the paying of bribes is to realize that attempts at intimidation are part of the game. It's been enough for me to deter this type of activity, when no payment is actually required by law, to just say I won't pay anything without an official receipt.
