Are there room safes to hold your wallet, money, watches, etc. or safes at the front desk? And if so, are they reliable? What's the best practice?
each room has its own electronic safe...that you program once you get to the room, so only you have the unlock code..
I have never had a problem with them and ive never heard of a problem with them, so i would say they are very reliable, they only that has ever happened with mine is that batteries died and the front desk had to send security and a maintenance man to come put new batteries, while i was in the room ..... you should have no worries about the safes..im sure most on here will tell you the same
This was our one complaint with our trip last year (well - we also had a room that had a sewer smell occasionally). We had some grief with our safe twice. The programming was lost and in each case, I waited an hour to an hour and a half in the room waiting for a maintenance person to show up with a plug in keypad to reset the safe. The first time it happened was at night and we couldn't get our camera and iPod etc which was a bummer as we were doing a beach party...very very frustrating. Would have sucked if we were trying to leave the resort and couldn't get access to our passports etc. This time around, I'm packing fresh batteries for the safe and also checking the battery cover on the back of the safe door (our safe didn't have one). Think that the batteries were shifting around when we were closing the safe and the the momentary loss of power might have lost the programming (meaning our personal code). Definitely was not a fun experience and didn't enjoy waiting in the room while Ginny was fraternizing and into the margaritas without me... We actually ended up carrying some of our valuables with us to avoid another inconvenience...anyway hope we don't have to deal with that this time around.
Happened to us once last week in room 1108. We must of used the safe 100 times though so 1 in a 100 is not bad. It did take about an hour to get it fixed though. I was thinking the same thing, thankfully it did not happen when we were leaving the resort for the airport!
The only issue I've had with the safe is that every time you close it, you can change the passcode. And it doesn't have to be only 4 digits like it says... whatever you put in, followed by the # sign becomes your passcode. Our issue was only really caused by too much to drink & fingers that werent real accurate when we tried to close it... but we woke up the next morning & couldnt get in... luckily, after a few tries, remembered what had happened & got it sorted out on our own.
If your safe does not work when you check in, plan on having to call several times before someone actually shows up to get it working. Some of the safes are brand new, and work great. Some are older and may have some battery issues. I may sound paranoid, but I don't really want to leave our room without the safe being locked.
there's a reset button if it doesn't work. It's on the inside edge of the door by the hinge, just turn it off and back on. If it's locked when you get your room after checking in try 9999 to open it, it's there code they reset them to.
