After going to the Golden Parnassus the last two years in early December, we decided to head off the TTR the last week of October this year. We had great times at GP, and likely would have gone back, but in following other Facebook pages on the place we discovered they are going quite thru quite a change, and it didn't look like it was going to be the place we had visited before, so I'm not going to do a lot of comparisons, because what we did there doesn't really go on that much anymore. I did trip reports of our previous trips http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/golden-parnassus/28517-11-29-12-3-trip-report.html, http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/golden-parnassus/31534-very-different-time-restling-trip-report.html, if you care to read. Basically we are high school sweethearts, now in our mid 40's from a very small rural town in Illinois, who have a 15 year old "normal" high school boy, and a 20 year old extremely "special needs" daughter that takes up most all of our time. We don't get much free time ever.

We did the typical thing of staring at the weather forecast for weeks on end before the trip, and the hurricane a few days before definitely made things a little more anxious. The weather the last two years the first week of Dec. wasn't as warm as we would have liked, so we were hoping for something better earlier in the calendar, and we weren't disappointed. We stepped out of the Cancun airport around noon'ish, and were met with mid 90's heat index. Nice.

Check in went smooth, and our room was ready. The lady at the desk gave us the run down of the place, and then switched to trying to get us to a morning meet and greet the next day, and gave us a little spiel about Desire. We said we had no interest in either, we absolutely weren't going to any meet and greet, and that was it. We were never bothered by any timeshare talk again. It didn't seem like a big deal at all.

Our room was 1130. It's right next to the Italian, and the very first room on that side, and across from the quiet pool. I think I remember someone else saying they didn't like that room, because it's right next to the laundry service, and loud. Around 8:00 you would start to hear it, and the construction going on, on the roof across the pool, but I was up by then anyway. I have sleep issues at times.

We met a two couples at the GP last year, and we decided to vacation with them for the whole trip this year. I walked down to the lobby, and they were just checking in. There rooms weren't ready, so we headed off to lunch. After lunch their rooms were ready so we headed to the pool.

We only got in the pool at the GP a couple of times in two trips, because it was too cold. Not an issue at all at TTR this trip. As soon as we stepped into the pool we could tell this is where we were going to be spending a lot of our time. Plus there was some game going on at that point, and my first glimpse out to the the pool was of a couple of ladies with no suits at all, sitting on the shoulders of someone, not a bad beginning. Wife's top was off after ten minutes, and never seen again. It got overcast in the afternoon so we got out, and headed to Margarita's for supper. At Patyo's, that night, they had the Hot Batucada Parade going on. To me this is one of those things that only is entertaining if you want it to be. It just seemed weird seeing people in a conga line, waving long balloons around while these guys beat the shit out of some drums. Anyway, to each their own, I guess the one guy in our group did like it, because he ended up dancing with them twice. If you could call what he was doing, dancing? At one point, when he was with one of the dancing girls he kept hitting her in the head with the balloon. She gave him a look, like what kind of weird fetish do you have? There's lots of alcohol involved, so I'm sure they are used to it, and she laughed it off. It did sprinkle a little making the floor pretty slippery. This couple dancing next to us had a slip, and he ended up basically body slamming her straight on her head. It didn't look good. Two from our group helped her with the blood for a bit, and then we called it a night around 1:00.

Day 2. Back to the pool mid morning. We started in one of the "fun holes" as they are called, but eventually made it over to the side of the pool right in front of the bathrooms. That ended up being our spot the rest of the trip. Lunch at Margarita's, and then quickly back to the pool. It rained during lunch then the sun came out for a bit after, but it didn't last. It poured for a few hours. It was warm enough out we really didn't mind so we drank by the swim up bar, and talking to people for a couple hours in the rain. Pretty much like every story you read about when it rains at the sexy pool. Eventually it got a bit cool, Meri and I headed to our Jacuzzi to warm up. It was much bigger than I thought it would be, and didn't take as long to fill as people said. We did the buffet for dinner, and the rest of our group did the Asian. We then met at the sports bar waiting for karaoke. The first two that sang were what I would call karaoke professionals. The words on the screen stopped working as soon as the song began, but he didn't need them. They were good. Then two guys from our group sang, and they are not what I would call karaoke professionals, but that's what makes it fun. There was supposed to be a band at Patyo's that night, but they set up in Nice Shoes, because of a chance of rain. I hadn't heard good things about the bands, and we never stopped back in to hear them, so I don't know how that went. Back to Patyo's until around 2:00. On this night I discovered my drink for the rest of the trip. Back home I would mostly drink beer, or Captain and Coke. On vacation I've always liked the slushy drinks out of the blender, don't judge.... Never had a problem with them before, but I did after day one this trip. Switched to vodka and soda for the duration, and felt much better for it. At one point I was ordering a drink at Patyo's and I'm trying to get a vodka and soda, but I kept yelling Sky and Vodka. I think I repeated it about three times before I figured out what I was doing wrong. Back home, that's a sign you've had enough, on vacation you just throw an extra dollar in the tip jar for being an idiot, and keep going.

Day 3. Same routine at the pool. Lots of fun. Our group of 8 did the Italian for supper. I'm not one for long sit down meals, and even though this took 2 hours like previously reported, the time flew by. My wife and I never drink coffee, but did do the sexy coffee. It was actually quite good. We then headed to the sports bar, and waited for Nice Shoes to open up for the stripper show. We ended up sitting in the front row. As we are sitting there, I'm thinking, hmmm, we are likely to be involved in the show with these seats, and yes that is what happened. The show was about :30 minutes, and very entertaining. Back to Patyo's till around 2:00.

Day 4. The clouds were gone for good, and it was a perfect, very warm Cancun day. Found out my wife is extremely good at floating on her back in the pool. Mid morning before the pool gets too busy, she was floating, and I gave her a little push, and then started talking to someone, which is easy to do in the sexy pool. She came back a few minutes later, and said she just missed hitting her head on the other side of the pool. Guess I was distracted. The pool seemed to be at least 75% topless, and some percentage bottomless. Lots to look at.... Fun time in the pool. The bees had been a bit of an issue around the swim up bar the previous couple of days. I don't know if it was the change in the weather or what, but they were everywhere!!, the last two days of the trip. I'm not exaggerating to say there were hundreds of dead bees on the sides of the pool. Many people got stung, and were bothered, but they did seem to subside, I thought later in the day. Our group of 8 was hitting various levels of vacation fatigue, so we didn't eat together. I think we got a Patyo burger. Taste just like the Soy burgers we used to get in elementary school when I was a kid. This was lingerie night. The nice thing about this resort is you can pretty much wear anything, or next to nothing, and you fit right in no matter where you are in the place. We did the casino night. I was wearing silk pants, and an some nice undershirt. They allowed that without a problem. Not sure they would have a few years ago, I was told. One couple in front of us were wearing jeans and shirts. Looked like they had just got there. They were not admitted. We ended up sitting in the back, as the front was full. That was a problem, because when the games started everyone in the front took up all the tables. A Canadian couple was sitting next to us, and they said, "this is lame". We agreed and headed off to Patyo's for the rest of the night.

Day 5. Another perfect weather day. Same old good time at the pool. After the Boobs Cruise returned the AIWC came out. Another fun day. This was White Night. Meri had on a very stunning dress I thought. Pretty sure it won't be worn around here though, much to my chagrin.

Day 6. Say good byes, and go back to the awful place of the real world. One interesting thing about the flight home. We had a connection in Detroit. Meri's brother lives in Norway. We didn't even know he was coming back on this day. He ends up on the same flight from Detroit to Moline as us, and it's a small plane with only a bout 15 passengers, his seat was two away. First time in three trips Meri didn't wear something "vacationy, or as she would say, "slutty" on the way home. Good choice.

Rooms: I had low expectations of our room, because I rarely hear good things about them, even from regulars. We were in 1130, and my first impression wasn't good, because of that. The door looked old and scratched, the lock thing didn't work, so maintenance had to be called, and there were ants in the hot tub. The pull down shade also broke on our third day. Those problems were all fixed immediately, and we really did end up liking the room. I thought it was a great location. The other couple brought Lysol to spray in the air-conditioning, because we had heard that was the thing to do. We never ended up using it. The one guy works in the hotel industry, and he didn't think the rooms smelled moldy at all. They were in the 5000 block. That part of the hotel did have a terrible smell to it, however, but it wasn't mold. Not sure what it was. Our rooms stayed very cool everyday, except for the last night. It didn't get that warm, but the humidity was off the chart, and we had to put the bedspread on the floor to keep from slipping, it was that moist out. No complaints about the room at all, I would get a Jacuzzi room again, just, because of location, and ground floor. The one thing I missed from the GP was the ocean view, and hearing the waves crashing ashore each night, however.

Food: I'm not a food person at all, so I'm very easy to please. I had no problem with anything I ate at any place. I was very satisfied. My wife is a very picky eater, to say the least. She was fine with the food, but overall wasn't the best for her. The rest of the people in our group who vacationed with us at the GP last year, said they thought TTR was better. We only had one bad meal experience. Meri had got us Patyo burgers one night around 6:00 before we went out. This day I went to Patyo's on Friday around 6:30 to do the same, as we liked them. The lady said it wasn't open till 7:00. All of the brochures say 6:00. I came back at 7:10. She again said 7:00. She could barely speak English. I said, it's after 7:00 right now. She rolled her eyes, and went to the kitchen to get some patties, and threw them on the grill. Her boss then shook his finger at her, and told her she had to do all of the skewers first. During this time, some old guy, who looked like the Jerry Stiller, from King of Queens, comes up to the buffet shirtless, and proceeds to reach waayyy across to get some food. Long story short, I ended up with a very overcooked burger with no cheese, and zero Desire to eat from the buffet at Patyo's that night.

Beach: The beach at GP is really, very nice. Great sand, waves crashing in, huge. You can watch cruise ship passing by all day and night. I don't remember hearing anything good about TTR's beach, but we all liked it better that GP's, for what little time we spent on it. I think we liked the fact that it didn't have four foot waves crashing in, and it was so much closer to everything. For all of the worries of seaweed, it was no issue at all.

Service: We prefer to get seated when we come in, and be able to spend our time eating and talking with our friends. I really don't like waiters scooping up every crumb, pulling out the chair, constantly checking on us. We got a little of that at the Italian, and a couple of times, and the buffet, but nothing over the top. I liked the atmosphere of everywhere we ate, and didn't want any more attention than that. Getting reservations was easy, and even thought the resort was reported to be very full when we were there, there always seemed to be plenty of places to eat. Maybe eating at 6:00-7:00 was the reason, I'm not sure? The resort quickly took care of any of the few small issues we had. Towel service at the pool was easy. One day that it rained we only returned one of our two towels. Someone must have taken ours. I could have swiped someone else's, but I didn't worry about it, and they didn't either. We weren't charged anything for it.

Pools: Our room was right at the quiet pool. Never seemed to be more than a dozen people there. Some, like my wife, read topless there during the day for a bit. We never made it to the sports pool. I watched a little of the volleyball. I think they were all naked by the time I got there, but nobody had to get out of the pool. We checked out the foam party, but didn't get in, just headed back to the sexy pool. Sexy pool was a lot of fun. Great temperature all the time. If you're 5'1" like my wife than the water is right about nipple depth, wish she was just a little taller.... The games were fine. Some went a little long. They had to work a bit to get people involved. I really like Sarah69. JJ isn't as likable, he never seems to smile. We did the beer drinking contest. I had to go up against a guy called "tiny", and he wasn't. I had him beat, but forgot about the cup on the head, and that cost me. I think i was the real winner though, as that guy went on to win, but had to drink 2 beers twice in the semi's, and 5 in the final to win. He looked a little rough. One guy got naked in the belly flop competition. Someone in our group would save chairs around 8:30 in the morning. We just had the ones closest to the bathrooms, and didn't use them much. At the GP people would put the chairs in the shallow part of the pool. Never saw anyone do that there.

Bars: Never seemed to have to wait very long at any bar for drinks. Sports bar seemed to have quite a few people in it whenever we walked by. NFL season and the World Series probably played a factor in that. We checked out the cigar lounge, because it was right next to our friends rooms. Like everyone else we wondered why it wasn't used. It did smell awful on that side of the resort for some reason, so not sure we would have stuck around even if it was open. Patyo's was great. One complaint, and it is a huge one. Why in the world do they have cloth covered chairs?!! It rained the first three days, so you either stood, or you got a wet ass. I actually like the music they played, and it didn't seem repetitive, or whatever else people complained about. On white night they had a guest DJ. He wasn't as good in my opinion. An hour of house music with no words, just doesn't do it for me, or really anybody else for as far as I could tell from the lack of dancing. Then some beat box guy, and a violin guy went on the stage. They were extremely talented, but as the music switched to more of what you would consider "bar dancing music" Their act got in the way I thought. I never listened to AC/DC and thought, you know this could really use some more high energy extremely loud violin accompaniment. They were very good though. The DJ seemed to have a problem with letting songs play all the way thru. Not always a problem, but he could read the room better. The lady called "Spicy", absolutely LOVES the song Timber. Not sure why he cut it off half way thru while she was dancing on the main stage? I had read a lot about Patyo's being so hot. It was quite warm our whole trip, but the big fans kept plenty of air moving I thought. I thought the sound, and the music selection was great. One thing I really like about the GP was the Tiki bar at night. It's not the loud dance scene of Patyo's, but there was the same music going on. The Tiki seemed more sexual though. That may not make sense when you are watching dozens of scantily clad women dancing at Patyo's, but the body shots on the bar at the Tiki were definitely missed. I actually didn't see any body shots the whole time we were there. I suppose since there was little topless at the GP during the day, that doing the body shots made it all more special, but they were quite sexual there. It seemed to me that after looking at naked boobs all day at TTR, it was more about dancing at night, and listening to music as apposed to the sexual part of it. Just my take from our spot at Patyo's. Forgot to add about theme night participation. We did lingerie and white night. I'm not going to put a percentage on it, but a lot of people were dressed up in some fashion. As the guy who wore a complete red body suit, then a Borat suit, then finally just a pouch over the junk, and a tail on his back side, can attest to. He also had a great rally puke one night. Thought he was down for the count a couple of times, but kept bouncing back.

Security: Never even noticed them, and didn't see any problems. Entertainment staff caught a couple of people taking pictures during games, and yelled at them, but didn't chase them down, and security never responded when called. One guy came up from the beach in regular clothes, and didn't have on a wrist band. One other girl was friends with the girl doing the striptease on the pole. She got yelled at, but kept the pictures.

Construction. They continued to work on the three rooms on top of the hotel around the quiet pool. It sure doesn't look to me, like it had been reported, that those are just temporary rooms for display that will be torn down when the real construction starts. It looked to me like they were continuing up higher as we left? I have no idea, and really nobody else does either.

People: You have to be a pretty grumpy person to not have a good time on vacation, and not enjoy the people you meet. Most everyone there was a lot of fun. More swingers than I thought there would be, and a some of them were a little upset at one couple in our group when they turned them down late one night, but really it was never really an issue most of the time. We met a lot of people. Lisa from New York was one of them. Very friendly....hope to see her and her husband again some time. Meeting random people, and having fun with them is one of the best parts of vacation. The one girl in our group pretty much talks to anyone she can, all the time. Her only competition would be the couple that go by Ready2party. I almost went up and talked to them once, but didn't for two reasons. One, they always had people around them talking, and two, I'm not sure I had a hour to kill, as that's how long their conversations seemed to last. They looked like the most friendly couple I have ever seen, and they were always smiling and having a good time. Ajay would also fit in the group. I just went up and said hi once, and she seems like the nicest person you could ever meet. Too many others to name or remember.

Overview: I really liked the resort. I think some of the negative stories are overdone, by people just looking for something different, and needing a reason to try something new, and some of the wilder stories might have a bit of streeetcch to them, but that's all fine too. Of our five days, it rained pretty good on two of them in the afternoon, and two of the other days had maxed out Boobs Cruises of over 100 people, so we really only had one day of the sexy pool with great weather, and everyone there, so we missed out on a little as far as that goes I think. Would we go back? Definitely. It's in our price range, and a great time. My biggest problem is we aren't really that social. Especially my wife, so being there for a whole trip, and not being with friends we can lean on would be tough. At the GP we kind of blend in, but at TTR I'm afraid I would look like a creeper guy if I was by myself, but I like to think a return trip will happen. It would definitely be hard to go somewhere else after this....

Funny you mention Ready2party! We met them in July and have become friends with them. Laura and Will are awesome people and will talk to anyone!

Great report. Happy it worked out. Your advance questioning of TTR vs gp had me worried but now I see deep down you really wanted to give it a go but just wanted to first be sure it was a fit for you both. Glad it turned out to be and more so. Had me laughing on the sky and vodka. I have been told I may of done the same thing a time or two :)

    Great report!

Jannet and I were at Paty O's the night of 30th October, sorry we didn't get a chance to meet.

The bees are a seasonal thing, lasts about 3 weeks at this time of year, every year without fail. Then they just disappear never to be seen again until same time next year :)

Nice report. Glad you guys had a great time. Looks like the change in locations wasn't that much of a risk.

I have also totally done the booze and more booze mistaken drink order.
