Anyone have suggestions for good restaurants near TTR? Walking distance would be preferable but a short cab/bus ride would be OK too. Looking for some great authentic Mexican, sushi,... really anything. We love the Italian on the resort and the Asian is OK too but both get pretty old after a week.

We did not end up making it last trip, but our tour driver (from USA Transfers) said one of the best Quesadilla places was just down the street from the hotel. Cross the street and go left (away from downtown, past the church) .

I forgot its name but we will be trying it next trip. But you will be there before we are so if you try it report back. Plus any other finds in the area.

THE place for shashimi in my opinion is Puerto Modero. It is a cab ride or bus ride up to middle of hotel zone. They brought out a boat of ice with the tuna in 9 half inch thick slices. It was really fresh and was Bluefin.
Everything else on their menu is awesome. Cab ride will run you about $7-10 US.

If you want Mexican, then go to La Parilla. Great food and you will love how they bring margaritas out to the tables. It is downtown. Shorter cab ride. About $5-$7 US.

There is small Mexican chain called 100% Natural, they have locations in all the main cities in Mexico. They use all-natural ingredients and have a wide variety of items on their menu including some traditional Mexican food. The Cancun location is just inside the mainland town, $10 cab ride or take the bus and walk about 2 blocks. Whenever I'm in Cancun, I meetup with my local buddy there.
