Does anyone know a reliable glazer that does residential window tinting? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Um uh...we have tinted windows in our house but we bought them that way. As in there isn't a film on them that was added later. We just ordered gray glass instead of clear or green glass when we replaced all our windows. I'm not sure if that's what you are after or not. The people we got to do our windows are called Vidrios Mexico and are on Lopez Portillo somewhere (I can figure out where if you need me to). If you are after having someone add tinting after the windows are installed then I imagine it's doable but don't know who does it. We LOVE having tinted windows. They make it much harder for the neighbors to spy on us...haha.
After Wilma all the new glass was tinted, but we have two very large windows, wall to wall and about 4 feet tall that face directly into the setting sun. The air temperature 1 inch off the surface of the glass can exceed 120 degrees F, hence the Desire to get them even darker using an adhesive film with a reflective layer facing out. The Spanish translation is literal, film for windows; peliculas para vidrios. A tour of the Cancun Yellow Pages, a unique experience in itself, produced several results, as did a telephone inquiry with 3M's distributor in the DF. Google was helpful as well. We have 3 prospective installers scheduled to bid the job. We'll see how outrageous a price they'll dare to quote.
I had my windows tined with a security tint (worked great in Wilma). I used Alpha2000 - the same guys who do the car windows. Not sure if they are still doing residential windows. Worth a try? They had a whole array of tints to chose from and did all the windows in a day.
Mix, I am going today to the body shop I used to do my SUV windows. Before I had to have 2 of them peeled off back in April of course. I want to get get some door panels mirror tinted so my tall pervert friends cannot peep in. Will let you know if they do this kind of work.
Another option, depending on the window, is frosting. The door to our laundry/storage room faces the street, we opted for frosted glass in that door. This way light comes in but no one on the street can see my gorgeous mountain bike (which I never seem to ride any more).
