I was staying in Tulum for the last 3 days & came across a mother dog & 2 puppies who are in desperate need of rescue. I am now in Cancun & will be staying here until this sunday, June 23. I'd like to do all of the necessary steps to be able to take the dogs back to the US with me when I depart. I would like to return to Tulum this Thursday & take the dogs to the veterinarian in Tulum to get all necessary shots & paperwork, so that the dogs are able to travel to the US. The hotel I'm staying at in Cancun will not allow the dogs to stay at the hotel. I need to make arrangements for the dogs to have somewhere to stay from this Thursday, June 20 through Sunday, June 23. I'd appreciate any suggestions or direction to help find somewhere for the dogs to stay in Cancun these 4 days/ 3 nights, this Thursday through Sunday?
I would also like to find a good local Cancun veterinarian &/or animal rescue organization who may be able to help me in this process, as I do not have any recent experience in bringing dogs from Mexico to the US.
Thank you in advance for your help!
I greatly appreciate any responses, & I have a skype phone number that I can send privately to anyone who can provide assistance in this process.
    Erin

There is a person on the Living in Cancun section using the name Rawkus who does a lot of work rescuing animals. You may want to send him a Private Message and possibly he can help. We use Dr Najar as our vet. He is on Sunyaxchen (SP?) in Cancun he may also be of help in answering questions. Tel: (98) 84 08 89

They can stay at Petopia if they have all the shots and the passport thingy - INICIO - it's a great place - 140 pesos a night

Thank you so much for trying to help us with this HUGE problem in Mexico.

Step 1: You'll need to buy a crate (in Cancun) at Walmart or the pet store. Walmart might be a bit cheaper, if they have them big enough. Pet stores usually have several sizes.

Step 2: Van from Cancun to Tulum with said crate. I would not try to find a vet in Tulum, you'll have much better luck / more options in Cancun. I like Mundo Animal in Plaza las Avenidas Mundo Animal - Mundo Animal They will do the shots and paperwork for transporting to the US and offer kennel service. Rawkus will probably have the best options for these things though.

Step 3: Find out from your airline...Can all 3 go in the crate? Can the puppies go in carry on? You'll want to be as prepared as possible.

I just have to say THANK YOU from all of us animal lovers in Cancun. Thank you for making a difference and not just turning a blind eye to the animals in need of help here.
