yes, but the local cops there ALWAYS pull over rental cars for BS reasons just to charge you with something and then offer you a "bargain" to forget the whole thing, $$$$. They just want your money, they will even offer to escort you to your ATM. LOL That's your clue to take off on them! ahahahhahaa
Never give more than $10! But don't take off either as they will get the other cops to find you. Then they will have something on you. Also, if you pay one....expect to have to pay another a mile or two down the road!! Not frequent but has happened to me a half dozen times over the years. The funniest time was late at night when they told me to blow into an empty flashlight, it was thier "breathalyzer". I spoke enough Spanish to argue with them that they needed to put batteries in it or it wouldn't work. They were so confused by my response they just let me go. Also don't hand them your passport, tell them it is at your hotel and they can go with you to get it. They won't. But they won't give it back to you if you handed it to them until you give them a reasonable amount of money. I usually give some basic ID or an expired military ID or my rental car agreement. Yes I spend too much time in Mexico.
