Anybody got any Idea where the Recycling Collection points are in Cancun. I used to take things to the one infront of Sam´s Club and when that one disappeared started taking things to the collection point infront of Costco... low and behold, that one has disappeared now too. Being British I was brought up to Recycle all bottles, aluminium cans, paper and plastics... now my yard in Cancun looks like a dump because I can´t find anywhere to drop all this stuff off. HELP !!! Please dont link keywords to your sites, it's not that kind of forum and comes across very spammy. Links in your signature are fine. As for the question, I don't know. All I know is that as soon as we put our rubbish bags outside within an hour or so someone has gone through it removing anything recyclable often leaving the rest scattered over the pavement.
We live in a closed neighbourhood and so everything from our street goes directly into the Bin Wagon... no chance for anybody to take anything unless of course the binmen go through it at the dump. Thanks for the Reply. :mexicoflag:
Last week our friends from Uk had seperated all our rubbish - when I told them there was no recycling rules here they were horrified. Tracey
There used to be three recycling programs that I knew of here. The one that seems to be disappearing was a joint effort between the city and Amigos de Sian Ka'an (my understanding was that they didn't have long-term funding in place for that program). The drop off points were in front of City Club, Sam's, Soriana, Costco and a few other places. But there are still two remaining recycling programs in Cancun. Caritas Quintana Roo has a recycling program. They sell or reuse the materials. When they sell the materials the money is used to support their other good works. Caritas QR recently sent a planeload of aid and workers to Haiti. And whenever a hurricane comes through they are in the villages here rebuilding palapas and feeding people. They are a great org doing great work. Here's what they take: PET 1 and 2 Plastic Glass bottles (preferably with top) Metals Aluminum Wood Paper Newspaper Cardboard Banners and tarpaulins Caritas drop off location: Downtown - SM25 Calle Anona #32, just off Cobá (behind the Crepería) Hours: 8 am-4 pm Mon.-Fri. Caritas Quintana Roo Caritas Quintana Roo On the last Saturday of each month the city of Cancun also has a recycling day. You can drop off: Plastic types 1 & 2 Glass Cardboard & Paper Toner & Ink Cell phones Electronics & Household Appliances Vegetable Oil (they make biodiesel from it) There are several drop off locations. Info here: Reciclaton 2010 Recycling here is a little difficult because it requires you to make an effort, but there IS recycling here.
Cancun Recycling Thanks RG for that info... I can finally get rid of all this stuff that has become quite an eyesore in my yard, I hate to throw stuff in the regular rubbish when I'm accustomed to recycling. The only stuff that my cleaner actually wanted was the Aluminium Cans, otherwise I have plastic & glass bottles galor and a mountain of paper, don't know how our poor jetta is going to manage. :daveandmo:
