Not sure if this has been asked before. We are headed to DRM for a few days in July. Our flight leaves the day after we check out of DRM. We are interested in finding a hotel for that one day, any recommendations? Ideally we would like to be near Coco Bongo (everyone says it's a "must do at least once!") and the restaurants. We always spend our days in the resort, not that that's a bad thing, but we'd like to see some other aspects of Cancun. If there are any other suggestions, please let me know. Also, looking for advice on COVID19 testing as we wouldn't be able to get the test at Desire. Oh and would it be possible to hang out at Desire after checking out? I know we can do that if we have a later flight, but could we do this if we are transferring to another hotel? Or would it be better to check out earlier so we can have a full day of the Cancun that exists outside of Desire?
I've stayed at the Riu Palace Las Americas which was nice and within walking distance (1 km) of Coco Bongo. Hyatt Zilara is also very nice. That's close to Lorenzillo's which is a popular restaurant and about 2km from Coco Bongo.

For a hotel near Coco Bongo and restaurants in Cancun, check out Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach. There are several COVID-19 testing centers in Cancun, including at the airport and in some hotels. It's best to check out of Desire earlier if you want to explore Cancun outside of the resort. Cancun has plenty to offer, from beautiful beaches to shopping and dining experiences.
