We missed our spring trip to TTR/DRM, and chose to rebook our credit for spring 2021 to lock in what we thought was a good price. We usually come in early August also. We are chomping at the bit for a vacation - like most others I am sure. But REALISTICALLY, when do you all think it's going to be ok to travel again?...and for it to be worth it?...let's be real, none of us can maintain social distancing at TTR/DRM LOL
Our trip to TTR is 7/17-7/24 and I fully expect things to be on track for those dates. To your point, I don’t plan to social distance during our trip...too much fun to miss out on!
I hope right away! I guess you have to gauge what ‘ok to travel means’. It looks like there will be flights and a means to get there soon. But I suspect that it’ll be pretty thin crowds until the fall or beyond.
There are many weeks where the tower is already sold out. A lot of people that had vacations canceled have reschedule which has only filled up the reservations they already had. Don’t underestimate the Temptation following.
That’s true as well. The roll call for August is on page three already. We’re hoping to go, but are holding off firming anything up until things stabilize.
It’s was a no risk financial decision for us to rebook. We had credits we needed to use and we found a lush room for $190 a night fully refundable. So if for some reason we can’t go we are not out anything. The difference between our 6 night trip in March that we didn’t get to go on to our 8 day trip in September was around $800 less. We rebooked that in March that same trip now would cost us $600 more and the tower is now sold out.
It’s fair. Even with our reopening we’ll have a mandatory two week quarantine (until phase 3) when we return... kind of a killer on the work side of things.
Here is how I *think* it may play out. This is a best guess, don't hold me to it or tell me I was wrong in a months time. Of course, I will mention it again if I am right I believe Cancun will re-open up on June 1st. Certainly not all hotels, just those with a big following and advanced bookings like Temptation. They will be the test-bed for a fuller re-opening of other hotels in July. There will be checks at the airport on entering, a temperature check, a questionnaire etc. Probably a similar check on boarding. This will then be repeated on arrival at the hotel. If you make it through those 3 checks you are "in" and considered not to be a risk. (Yes, I know symptoms can take several days to develop, and someone could still be a risk). Hotels will have much stricter hygiene measures. Frequent wiping down of surfaces, extra room cleaning on change over, more general cleaning. Distance markers at check in, restaurant lines, sunbed spacing. Anywhere where people don't normally socialise anyway. Probably shut down buffet style food and make it all a la carte. I think guests will be allowed to socialise together to the extent they choose to at bars, in the pool, at Bash. You can always walk away and isolate yourself as much as you want. There won't be any security coming up and shouting "two metres!". I don't think guests will be required to wear masks anywhere, that would be ridiculous on vacation. The guests that come to start with will not be those hiding in their house waiting for vaccines. They will be those who want to live life but still understand the risks and act accordingly. I expect most of the guests at start up to be those from Southern US States and Mexican Nationals. Brits will be later and Canadians will be last. I am sure the hotel will be very strict with staff. Daily health checks on arrival (they have been doing that for the last 2 months even though they are closed). I expect bartenders, waiters, servers will be required to wear masks at all times. Cancun including Temptation has one shot at this. If they can show they can do it without guests getting sick and having a great time, bookings will rocket very quickly. If the opposite happens the destination is fucked for the next 6 months. You can bet your last dollar they will do their very best.
We were supposed to be in New York right now, then Vegas in a couple of days. Trip of a lifetime. We even skipped TTR last year to pay for it! Got a refund on accommodation, but the expensive British Airways flights are now sitting as a credit voucher, to be used by May 8th 2021. I fully expect prices of flights to rise when lockdown is eased, particularly if they implement social distancing on planes (lots of empty seats). Govenment has also advised here in the UK that vacations abroad may not be possible for the rest of 2020. That being the case, we may end up using our flight voucher for a trip to Cancun May 2021 instead. Hopefully there's a vaccine by then.
