Ugh... Our old Fujitsu just lost half of its 1gb RAM (RIP lil` fella) Now, to me, laptops and computers in general are like... well, Im probably better at Chinese than dealing with these machines After doing(trying!) some Googling, Im quite sure our model only holds a maximum of 2 X 512mb. I was looking at buying another 512 to replace the one that retired. Hehe, even trying to figure out all the stuff gave me a headache, so Im wondering: A: Does anyone know of a good place for laptop/comp parts? We used Dr Chip once(when he was just next to the HZ entrance on Coba/Bonampak), but he completely ripped us off B: Does anyone know this stuff, and would that person be able to assist me with this?? (Purchasing the correct RAM and installing it) Thanks in advance EDIT: Crap, I wrote USB instead of RAM on the title
Rawkus - Yeah, didn't understand a word of what you wrote either haha (I try to stay away from computer lingo) This may be lame advice, but I've used mercadolibre.com a few times and gotten great computer stuff for cheap.
Gringation: I found heaps of "good stuff" on mercadolibre My issue is that its like a damn jungle(well, for me at least...) and all the specifications etc. just confused the cr*p out of me, haha I need to find out exactly what type, model etc. :O
Dude PM me the model of your laptop and the serial number if possible and I will find out. I found a really good and cheap computer shop in Play Del Carmen and managed to buy some bits for my laptop that was infact about 30% cheaper then England. Same model and everything. I used to repair computers and laptops for a living so pretty sure I can help you out mate. The problem with ram is theres different types and differents speeds. You must get the right type or your computer simpley will not boot. How do you know one is dead out of interest?. your system should have some sort of test for ram depending on the brand & model. Good news is Ram is pretty cheap.
Life and Ben: I found a website that supposedly tells you what the limitations are etc. I was wrong on the "maximum 1gb" as it apparently is a maximum of 2gb, which is a great surprise One thing that the website tells you(you navigate until you find your exact model) was this: "Number of slots: 2. Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1GB per slot." A friend checked the other RAM the other day(hes back in Sonora now) and he removed the one that still works and only left the one that broke, and the laptop was like a halfdead donkey... He removed the bad one and put in the functioning one and it worked normally again, but obviously slower. Found some nice deals on mercadolibre. One is a 2x1 gb Kingston for 689 pesos. Supposedly the specifications are what Im looking for, but the thing is that I dont trust the laptop website and I dont want to fiddle around with a brand new RAM(read that the static electricity can kill it...) Yes, I am a noob Thanks for all the suggestions guys
Well... I *thought* I had about 3 sticks of that sort.. but I've looked and can't find them anywhere... I either threw them away by mistake or already stuffed them into one of my friend's laptops.... the good news is its not too expensive... a quick search of mercadolibre.com.mx for "ram 5300 ddr2" showed several results.. if you want just another 512mb stick this looks like this is the best bet since the guy has a good rep and it new sticks... total with estafeta shipping should be $226 pesos total... or you can get a 1gb stick for about double that... I doubt you'll find it that cheap in town but you can look. as for installation [ame=""]its dead simple.. and the static thing hasn't really been a problem for years since most new ones have an antistatic coating that makes them pretty resistant, not that you'd want to treat them too badly. Good luck...
I got your pm and have just emailed the place in Playa Del Carmen for a price, that cruical site it great for things like that. . Like said the static problems are really not so much any more. Just tuch some thing large and metal before you handle the ram to lose any static on yourself. In England I use a radiator but we don;t really get them out here!. Will let you know there responce.
Life and Ben: Thanks heaps for all the help and advice - much appreciated! Life, the video was great! Never knew it was that simple. One that I checked they used a anti-static wristband(!) etc. and really focused on the "static electricity will kill the RAM"-part, which, being a noob, scared the cr*p out of me, haha Ben: So the website(Crucial) is ok to use? It seems like they know their stuff? Cant wait to bring back some speed to this old fella
