I started another thread but today saw a story on TV about Quinoa, as part of the story titled "10 Foods You Need to Eat". Here is the guts of the story as to this stuff. I compiled an email on the story and the follow up research that I did on all 10 Foods. If anyone would like it, PM me with an email and I will send you waht I sent to family and a few close friends who try to eat healthy. Quinoa - loaded with protein, a complete protein with all the amino acids you need. It's a seed that acts like a grain. 1 cup cooked = 4 eggs for protein content, without saturated fat and carbohydrates. The perfect food. Cooks like rice. Use in place of bread crumbs in recipes. Mix with red meat dishes, like meatballs, to take some of the red meat out of your diet. Try creamy oats and quinoa for breakfast. I learned today the 2 accepted pronunciations. KEEN-wah and Key-NO-wah. My daughter uses the first one and I am sticking with her on this debate. The authors said that NASA was looking for the perfect food to use in case they could only send one thing up in space with the astronauts. Quinoa was their choice. [ame=""] Cheers,
Yes, at The Greenery, back right hand corner of the store on the top couple of shelves. The Greenery is in Plaza Peninsula, on Bonampak. Coming from Coba, pass Plaza Las Americas, and it is on the right about .5 km. The plaza has a Starbucks. To the right of Starbucks, on the corner, is Manyee, a restaurant. The Greenery is around the corner to the right of Manyee. They have many options. The flakes are what I use to mix with oatmeal and the pearls I use when the Quinoa is the main part of what I am preparing. About $60 and $80 pesos respectively. Post recipes if you have good ones please.
T.J ..since you have been to this Greenery place do they have also other cool healthy stuff you cant easily find in Cancun ,I keep bumping my head against the wall here trying to find healthy gourmet products that are not filled with chemicals and stuff .
Hi Violet, The Greenery is a small store, expensive but they do have some interesting, healthy items. Agave Syrup from Trader Joe's, a bit cheaper than other Agave I have found around town. It won't fill all your needs but it can help. I have seen an increasing number of Organic items at the Mega next to Costco, pretty much in the center of the food section. But you should also check out Chedraui at Plz las Amer. Organic Peanut Better now available. And I am sure you know you can get some organic produce, fresh and frozen at Costco. I am sure no expert. Cancun Fun is though and maybe will comment on this thread.
I might wanna check them (Greenery) out ,thanks T.J yeah been lookin for like PB without hydrogenated oils and sugars just ...peanuts ,nut butter ,same story ,stuff in the supermarket i woudlnt even touch...Thanks for responding and sorry for hi jacking your thread haha but it is just too hard to even find people who would know where this stuff is ,most of my gourmet items come from Liverpool gourmet section or some stuff I have found in chedraui or Walmart but sometimes the stuff in suepr markets you see them once and they never EVER EVER EVER restock it the beauty of living in Cancun!!!yeah Cotsco is wonderful for veggies !! I will check that MEGA out soon too!!! Thanks !!
T.J.: How much does each one contain? Ive read more and more about quinoa, and Im really curious and might try it this weekend. Also, how was the soymilk you bought in Costco that day that I ran into you? Good, bad, decent?
Rawkus, The soy milk was ok but the price was great. I prefer the Almond Drink. Usually get ur at Mega in the child section.
The are out of the quinoa grain for about a week. They did have a powdered quinoa product sweetened with steevia that will be nice for the hi protein shakes I make with raw eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt. For when I lack an ingredient! Thanks Tj.
You are welcome Zina. I just had breakfast of 1/4 Quinoa Flakes (Hojuelas) and 3/4 Steel Cut Oats (smuggled), with banana, blueberries, Agave Nectar and a pinch of salt. Made some Soya Te Chai Latte to go with it. Enough to put in my insulated mug to take to church. Trying to match the flavor of Starbucks so I don't have to pay the ridiculous price of $54 for the vienti. What a ripoff, yet I still stop there a lot. Have a blessed day.
