For us it is worth it...we like to get that out of the way before we arrive cuz once we get there we don't want to leave....
depends on how much stuff you need and if you plan on taking a trip away from the resort early in your trip for other shopping. if it's just a few items, i would skip it altogether, as there is a liquor and convenience store very close to the resort. will shopping at WalMart save you the $30 fee?
Taking a cab both ways is going to cost you around about the same amount as having USA Transfers stop en route. It is a lot cheaper by bus but will take more time out of your day, and you'll also have bags to cart around. As Erik says it depends how much (and what) you want to buy, prices are up to 1/3 cheaper than what they charge in the gift shop and probably 1/2 compared to the convenience store.

I always hop the bus back and forth for whatever we forgot, 8.5 pesos and five minute ride there. I always ask if anyone wants to go or needs something and run over its not that bad. Less than an hour round trip to get what you need and you save a fortune. More money to tip the staff.
Another option if you like exercise is to walk to walmart and take the bus back but do it in the morning when it's still cool....:aetsch004:
