This may be a fine hotel but I would not stay at a place called Alux or Aluxes. Google these words. Aluxes have been seen in certain places here, the native Mexicans know of them and will not enter onto the property for any reason. Bad things can happen according to folklore and many scary stories abound. It is more complicated than one or two paragraphs but I would not stay there if it were free.
A few impressions- we stayed one night, had a rooftop room, with jacuzzi on the roof. We enjoyed our stay, but didn't find the food to be very good, and the room seemed to be furnished with rather low budget furniture. We had a special offer which induced us to try it, but I wouldn't go there again, in all probability.
Shitfire TJ, I have stayed at Hotel Aluxes for 10 years........now I am scared. I once saw one sitting under an overpass on the way from the airport, he even had a little house.
A cheap hotel a block from the bus station on Uxmal. I have stayed here many times, no luxuries just a cheap place to lay your head down. Hotel Económico en Cancún - Hotel Alux
Thanks for the reply V. We are going to give it a try. I'm not to worried about A-Loosh. If I see one, I kill it and mount it in my trophy room next to the Leprechaun, Big Foot and Gnomes I've shot here in Alaska. LOL We have checked several rating sites like trip advisor and many others, the Priviledge Aluxes has about a 92% approval rating. On average most of the Cancun and Isla Mujeres 5 star resorts fell into the 80 to 85% approval.
Recently spent about ten days at the PA in one of their upscale suites with ocean view, second floor patio and small infinity pool; and found the small resort just at the edge of Playa Norte on Isla Mujeres quite comfortable, clean and relaxing. The resort is conveniently right across from Jax bar, a long time haven for many visiting or living on Isla and a couple blocks from Hildalgo street. The beach club, Cafe Del Mar is good to excellent both in food and service, the main restaurant is below average in food quality but they try to get it right and there's plenty of offerings, the Thai fusion restaurant is hit or miss on the menu, some items very good, some to far a stretch for their cooks. We opted into the AI for part of our stay, mainly for breakfast, the beach club and 24 hour room service (including drinks) and were satisfied for the most part but primarily dined out for major lunches and dinner. The beach area, including Cafe Del Mar is beautiful and well maintained, the pools are also clean and maintained and the small pool bar is hosted by one of the best local bartenders in the area, imported from one of competition's local beach bars and club. The pool area is expansive, yet has areas of privacy and there's no animation team providing entertainment, so the music playing from the pool bar is the main pool side entertainment which was good by me. The rooms themselves, especially the upper tier rooms are minimalist but feature all modern features, our room included multiple flat screen TV's, small fridge, CD player, Kitchen, living room, 1BR, 2 full baths, a large first level balcony, a huge second floor balcony w/ sundeck and small infinity pool. The panoramic view available was outstanding. The resort is adjacent to the old Isla cemetery, so some folks may have issues with that but having been around more than a few Mexican cemeteries in my time, including this one in the past, while a bit worn down from time, it's still quite attractive in the local folk art adorning the graves. If there's negatives to the PA, it's likely the small staff available though the people working there are extremely helpful, polite and courteous and hit or miss quality of the food offerings. There's no currency exchange but there's an Electra nearby with a bank and no shortage of small shops exchanging within a walking distance, including traveler's checks, especially on Hildalgo. And, the PA is currently on the "ruin the Isla" hit list from some locals and ex-pats as one of the new resorts on the block though that makes for great bar talk at Jax and elsewhere, which by the way, I highly recommend. The PA is also in easy walking distance of all the beach clubs on Playa Norte from either beach or street side, so those must have jaunts to Bujo's and others is quite available. As to the Alux themselves, after watching the pterodactyls for years snatching spring breakers from balconies in Cancun, the Alux make for pleasant late night drinking companions, just keep an eye on your shoes. Rather oddly, they seem to prefer their tequila anejo and their fish tacos Baja style. Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right... :icon_wink:
