We have a Facebook page set up for those who want to get to know each other better before we are there in June. There are alot of pics from past trips that everyone has posted & it is a fun way to get each other pumped for our trips. We absolutely love CC & we in no way set this up to try to replace it, this is just something we set up as an additional venue for us all to be able to chat & post pics all on one page. Plus some of the people in our group who are going arent members on here so it is a way for others who are going that arent here on CC to meet the people who are members on here. It is a completely private invite only page & any comments or pics that are posted are only able to be seen by other members in the group. So there is no fear that family members or other friends will see what is posted on it. Many of you on here are already members on it but I know there are alot of new members that I see have signed up under the June roll call & it has gotten to hard to send out private messages to everyone so I figured Id start a thread on here. If you are on Facebook & would like to be added to the page you need to send either me or my husband a FB friend request as we have to be friends on there first in order for us to send you an invite. My name on there is Jessica (Eno) Runyon & my profile pic is me in a black off the shoulder shirt. My husbands name is Ed Runyon & his pic is one of the two of us with him sitting & me standing behind him with my hands on his shoulder. It also says Edge Photography/Twin Studios under his pic. You can also send us a private message on here if you have any questions. We are looking forward to meeting everybody & cant wait till June!!! :cheerleaders:

It also would be a good idea to send us a message either here or on FB that you are sending us a friend request with your name so we know who you are.

There is no link since it is a private group. Noone can see it unless they are a member. You will have to send us a FB friend request so we can send you an invite to the page.

Using the social groups function here would be a better way to do this imho.

If every monthly group used Facebook to discuss their upcoming trip and recruited people from here to populate it then discussions here would die off. If there wasn't much going on here then people wouldn't return and there wouldnt be anyone to invite to Facebook, nor anyone else for that matter.

Facebook has it's uses (finding out what your Aunty Peg had for lunch or seeing pictures of a friends dog are typical examples) but it is truly bad for connecting with people who have common interests that you do not already know. This forum platform excels at that and I'd like to keep it alive for years to come.

We also have a nice little private spreadsheet going that contains people's vital info so we know each other a little better before stepping foot on the resort. We have 20 couples so far. PM me if you want in!

This is Ed. Please see my comment I made in this thread in regards to your site, google, facebook, etc.

So many people get upset or bothered or hurt as to what and where people should be talking about their trip to Cancun, TTR, etc. Truth is, as I mentioned in the other thread, hands down, we as I'm sure the majority use Cancuncare 4 or 5 to 1 over any other site. As I mentioned in that post, Facebook is used to reach those that don't get on Cancuncare. With that said, we ALWAYS recommend cancuncare to those in that group, as well as those just interested in vacationing in Mexico or Cancun. Our first trip to TTR, we didn't know about Cancuncare. It was after that trip that we found out about it. We use it and are pretty active in this forum daily. Facebook not so much. There are some for whatever reason don't use Cancunecare. People want to be kept in the loop on both to be quite honest. They check Facebook to see what the few that are not a part of Cancuncare are saying, and what pics anyone posts so as to know what's going on. There are SO MANY of us, that have no clue as to how HITS, LINKS, TRAFFIC, etc work on forums, websites, etc. We don't use any social network or website as a way to pull one person away from another. There are so many of us that now have smartphones and data packages with our mobile phones, and with Facebook being one of the most common applications, there are some that just rely or use it to keep pace with what's going on throughout the day. Perhaps you might develop or see what kind of Android app you could make for cancuncare as well. (Just an idea) Hands down, cancuncare is used by us so many times over when discussing and organizing our trip. Our facebook group just adds a little extra to reach some not on here, and a little easier way via our smartphones to see what others in the group are up to. Hope this makes sense to you. If in any way you are uncomfortable about what I've said, or even mentioning on here our Facebook group, feel free to delete or lock the thread. We aren't trying to hijack or pull away any members from here to there. We don't own/operate a website as wonderful as Cancuncare to understand how it works, or even think the majority of the time when we post something on here, of whether or not we're being politically correct about what we're doing. I don't envy you in regards to having to be a moderator and keep up with your site, but I do envy your having a Boobs Cruise that we can't wait to attend! Sorry if we didn't do something properly with this thread. Ed and Jessica

No need to delete or lock the thread, it's a useful discussion not an argument :)

Facebook has killed so many forums dead, I just don't want it to happen here. You only need to look at the Spring Break forum we have and compare activity to previous years to see how numbers are dwindling every year among young people, as they use Facebook instead of search. Sadly, today, some people think Facebook is the Internet and that's the only place they ever go. As I mentioned before facebook is great for keeping in touch with friends but it is useless at making them in the first place. Cancuncare serves both purposes.

I do think that suggesting people here to go to Facebook is a little like walking into your local Mom and Pop grocery store and suggesting they go to Walmart instead. If enough people do it then the Mom and Pop store shuts down and the mega businesses get even more richer.

I also appreciate that some people may be on Facebook but not on here. But really all they need is an email address and think of a password (same as facebook) to be part of our community. If they choose not to, it's because they dont want to, not because they can't.

Re a mobile app, it's something I know I need to do and it's planned. But I need to upgrade the forum to the next version of software first, since the current version does not support it. Upgrading is not an easy process since it involves converting the database with almost half a million posts and 22,000+ members that need porting across. It's time consuming, technologically challenging and not without risks of losing everything and starting afresh if I mess up.

I do intend to attempt the upgrade at some point, but while Jannet is still incapacitated due to her broken leg and I'm playing house husband most of the day it will be a little while until I can look at it in detail.

    Just trying to:
    a) provide a useful free site for people who are visiting Temptation, and maintain enough activity to keep people coming back
    b) make a somewhat unconventional living to support my wife and kids

No offence intended, we'll chat it over on the Boobs Cruise :)

It's better than a sticky, just click "community" on the toolbar below the logo.
