Hi all, I am thinking of staying at the Royal Hideaway Playacar and wondered if anyone had stayed there? I'm 33, single and would like to be close to the nightlife but also be in a nice resort so it looked a good choice. However, I don't want to be surrounded by couples in their 50s! (no offence!)

If anyone has any ideas of other options which would be suitable please feel free to share. If Temptations was 5 star i'd be there but it's not so please don't recommend it! Thank you

We stayed there last August, and I would recommend it if you want a very quiet resort where people mainly just lie around the pool all day. There was no nightlife at all when we were there--the dinner theater was closed, they never had a live band, and they shut down the DJ or karaoke promptly at 11. Although they scheduled some daytime activities, few people were participating the week we were there.

It is only a 5-minute cab ride to Playa del Carmen, which is nice.

If you're just looking to get away and relax, it's very luxurious. If you're looking to meet some people to go out on the town with, I'd hesitate.

It was definitely all couples, but the 20-somethings were all honeymooners, and most were 30's and up.

I don't know of any other 5 star quality resorts in Playa, but the Valentin Imperial and the Royal Playa del Carmen both get great reviews on Trip Advisor.

Well playacar is not near the nightlife. You will want to be further north.
On a side note if you want a young fun vibe in a very small intimate beach hotel look at the Fusion, it is far from a 5 star but clean quaint and fun, 1 block off 5th ave.
