Playa Del Carmen Day Trip?

I noticed on the map Playa Del Carmen is quite a drive - would anyone recommend doing this? I have been to Playa once before and really enjoyed it - especially the giant margarita - would this be more of an excursion or are the local buses available to do this? Thanks so much ahead of time everyone

I did a day trip a few years ago because my friends were staying in Playa. Researched taking the bus and remember it was pretty cheap, like 50-60 pesos I think, but you had to get to the bus station in downtown Cancun, and then there's an express to Playa that takes and hour and 15 minutes. Ended up taking a cab as I didn't want to worry about where to go, and negotiated flat rate $40 usd tip in. It took like 45 minutes but he drove like a maniac!
Was it worth it? I remember thinking if it wasn't because it was visiting friends, I probably preferred another day in paradise at TTR. I think I was only at the resort for 8 days that trip though, so if I was there for longer, I probably would've recommended it more.

 

Thank you for your advice - I am thinking we have to choose one thing (Isla Meujeres, Boobs Cruise, or Playa Del Carmen) - I am leaning toward Boobs Cruise - looks like the best of fun!

 

The bus company is called Ado. The bus was clean, great ac and very comfortable. It was cheap - my recollection was that it was about $5 or $6 per person. It went from the Tourist section in Playa to downtown Cancun. As I rember, it ran pretty frequently (every 30 or 45 mins???). We got off the bus in downtown cancun and hopped right on the city bus to the hotel zone. We had taken a cab from Temptation to Desire and then a cab from Desirevto Playa for a total of $80

 

IMO it all depends on how long your TTR trip is. If staying 2 weeks, sure, go to PDC for a day. If your vacation is only 5-7 days, do the Boobs Cruise and stay at the resort. Isla Mujeres is also a great day trip, but I'd only do it if staying 7-10 days. We use the day trips as a 'rinse and repeat' type of thing, but if your trip is too short you'll be missing TTR! My 2 cents.
