The wife and I were in Cancun in March and took a day pass to TTR. Had a lot of fun even though we were pushed out at like 6pm. Now we're planning our return trip to Cancun, but we're definitely going to stay at TTR. Trying to find the best plan for good rate.

Read a little bit on the forum...looks like the best plan is to book a less expensive room and barter for an upgrade at the hotel if I deem necessary. Problem is, I see several options available with several different prices.

Anyone mind sharing some tips on how to get the best deal? Maybe some idea the difference in Deluxe room or Luxury room, etc?

    Thanks in advance!

In april just get a basic room. The whole ocean vs garden view and everything is pretty pointless, they will move you around as they have availability and you really spend so little time in the room to have it even come close to mattering.

I personally don't worry to much about the room, it's a place to sleep for 4 or 5 hours at night and shower.
It is nice to sit on balcony with a drink while wife is beautifying herself for evening fun. Trivago usually shows some decent rates. As far as bartering for upgrade not sure I would guess occupancy plays a big part in that

As most will agree, don't let the room be a major concern because you will spend very little time in it. I have learned that all the rooms are similar but some do have one shower head and others with two which can be nice. I prefer ground floor because of my bad knee but other than that it's never a concern. There is something to be said about having sex on a balcony as well. LOL I would recommend that you at least take a look at the layout of the resort and get an idea of where the different room blocks are located. All rooms are within a short walk regardless. The 3000 block is for premier members only typically but it never hurts to ask when you check in if one is available because I have known people to get one from time to time. If you have an idea of where you would like to stay, request that area when you check in otherwise you will get what you get. They are very accommodating. Enjoy your trip!

If you want a bigger room and want to be on the beach, get a Temptation Suite, we've stayed in it 3 times. They have a jacuzzi in the bathroom.

We like the rooms right next to Paty-O's for the convenience. It's super handy to step out your door and be at the party or steps from the buffet, or for a quick freshen up. Bear in mind though, these rooms have ear plugs on the night stand for a reason. As Bob & Ivy mentioned, a little balcony show can be exciting too! Glad you got a small taste of the place already and are coming back to make more friends. You'll probably learn the same thing most of us have which is, TTR is not like most other resorts where the room really matters much. At other resorts you want a nice room because there isn't much else going on. At TTR you need a place to park your stuff, play, shower, and sleep. (most likely in that order) A huge part of the fun is on the outside of the door!

    Next trip - April 7 - 13 2016

April is, or will be sold out ( some days are already),, so trying to upgrade on check in is pretty iffy .

Great crowd. Book soon if your are thinking of going

Some of the sites can get pretty confusing with what they called the rooms, i.e. Deluxe room or Luxury room.

I think the 5 basic types are(could be confused about the Jacuzzi room types though, someone correct me if I am wrong):

Regular/Garden view - could be anywhere, Normally near PatyO's or overlooking a court on the other side.
Ocean view - in the beach front buildings with a view/semi-view of the ocean
Jacuzzi room - around the quiet pool with a Jacuzzi in the bathroom
Jacuzzi suite - around the quiet pool, ground floor, Jacuzzi outside on a patio (pull down shade)
Temptations suite - Oceanfront much larger room with a sitting area. I think there are only like 10 of these total.

Obviously they go up in price. Just try to figure out what's what on whatever site you are using. The crazy expensive one is the Temptation suite.

If you want to make sure you get a room that looks at the ocean, then pay the extra ahead and get an ocean view. If you want to roll the dice, just get a garden view and then see what you can upgrade for when you are there. You may just like the garden view and save some cash. Like everyone said, you aren't in the room much. But I personally like sitting on a upper deck looking at water, not hotel buildings. But when it costs more then I am willing to pay, I have been perfectly happy with a good garden view.
