Does anyone know of any charitable organizations where I can donate used (but good condition) clothing and household items?
Caritas of Quintana Roo does great charity work here with the needy. Whenever a hurricane knocks down one of the villages in the jungle here Caritas goes in and does front line work provide food, blankets and building supplies. They will take all kinds of household goods and clothes as donations. They give some of it to those in need and the rest they sell to raise funds for their work. They will also take recycling (bottles, cans, paper and other stuff) and will sell the materials to raise funds. They are very enterprising. The Caritas web site: http://www.caritasqr.org/ Contact person Dalia: dalia at caritasqr dot org She speaks little English. They have two locations in Cancun that I know about. One is at the City of Joy (Ciudad de la AlegrÃa: http://www.cityofjoyfoundation.org/) out on Lopez Portillo by the ABC cement place. The other is in SM25 down one of the side streets off Coba. There may be other locations that I don't know about.
There is an orphanage in Bonfil that I have been taking thing to for a while. Kid's clothes and toys of course, but detergent, cleaning supplies, cash, etc are all needed and go to a good cause. The kids are polite and clean and always come help unload the car. I am happy to pick things up and deliver them for this worthy cause. Just send me a PM if interested.
TJ - What's the name of that orphanage? Is it Casa de la Esperanza? The IWC is supporting them this year in addition to RAP.
